Midgardr changes
First of all, thank you!
Every single one of you, all 650*. It wasn't a given that so many people would want to get their hands on Midgardr... and still in its development phase at that.
Steam post image*technically there were 649 of you, but that felt wrong, so we rounded up hehe
When we opened the playtest we didn't expect such a big response. We actually had to extend it by an extra week because requests kept coming in! In the end we found ourselves with 650 people who had played and had opinions to share.
We read everything. Here's what we learned:
Most people had fun (yay!)
But maybe the orange slice told us the most important thing: those who struggled at the beginning found their footing. For us that means the learning curve works. The game is learned by playing, there's something to figure out, and it's worth figuring out. And then there's what isn't there: nobody, zero people, chose 'I wouldn't play again'. The red doesn't exist in the pie chart at all.
Most people felt the game was dense
This data point matters as much as the first one. We were genuinely afraid the game might feel empty, and in the survey 1 meant exactly that — too sparse — while 5 meant overwhelming. The answers landed in the middle. Huge relief.
The thing that hit players the most? The Event cards.
By a long shot. And that got us thinking: we've always described this as a strategy game — resource management, tough decisions, survival under pressure. And it is all of that. But if the narrative side is what sticks, maybe the game is something slightly different from how we'd always imagined it. We're still sitting with that one.
Game balance still needs work... but not that much
The feedback was clear, even if most people found it broadly fair. It's the next thing we're focusing on.Thank you to everyone who played, and to the 45 who filled out the survey, you helped us understand the game better than we did ourselves, and we play it every day.
Now we're FINALLY ready for the demo. The date will be announced soon. THANK YOU All Hail the Holy Radish 🌱
