The playtest is finally open. Everything you need to know about what's inside is in the post below. Give it a read, then jump in. This build represents Chapter I out of three. At the end of the run, the story closes on a narrative hook that will lead into Chapter II in the future. To collect feedback and impressions we've put together a form [link]. If you find bugs, come yell at us on Discord [link].

📦 What Chapter 1 contains

  • 35 turns — roughly 40–50 minutes of gameplay

  • 2 different endings, each with 2 quest variants, for a total of 4 possible conclusions

  • Real replayability: every run can unfold differently

  • The story of Chapter 1 closes on a narrative hook that will lead into Chapter 2

⚙️ Game Systems

Everything in Midgardr runs through cards. Here's what you'll find:

  • City building — construct and develop your village turn by turn

  • Resource management — keep your resources balanced to avoid collapse

  • The Curtes — gather political allies, each with their own personality and effect

  • Event Cards — choose how to handle an event, then discover the consequences. What seems right isn't always right

  • Merchant — a bundle shop available every 10 turns

  • Oracle's Goblet — a tool to anticipate event outcomes, if you know how to use it

  • Letters — the main narrative thread that will guide you toward the chapter's ending

  • Status Changes — the village can fall into epidemic, famine, or revolt depending on your choices. Keep an eye on it

The goal is simple: reach the end of the chapter without letting the village descend into chaos. Keeping the peace is harder than it sounds.

📝 Dev Notes

A few things worth knowing before you start:

  • The tutorial is still provisional — for now it's just intro slides. We're already rethinking it

  • Any variation to Population and Defense caused by events is temporary: it resets after 1 turn

  • Scroll and click on buildings to view their details

  • Midgardr is pronounced"midgard"— /ˈmɪdɡɑ:rd/ — no final "r"

  • Midgardr is more than it seems. There's a meta-story we've kept secret, and we've started to hint at it in the new trailer. You can get a glimpse of it through the green journal next to the board... try opening it

💬 Your feedback genuinely matters
