Medusa Frontier changes
This update features significant optimization to texture loading and broad revisions to improve development, gameplay and visual quality.
---------------------
Additions and Changes
*Major Revision: A significant revision to texture loading has improved game startup speed dramatically. Texture loading is about 30x faster than previous builds since texture mipmaps are no longer generated at run time.
*Major Revision: PBR materials have been simplified with a stylized roughness, metallic shader method that offers stable visual quality and color balance for development and art production. Productivity has already improved due to less time tweaking textures and materials in an Early Access phase when broad visual concepting and stable visual style are vastly more critical than refined PBR material realism.
*Revision: Shader revisions for terrain and objects have improved visual quality of the night cycle game experience which is intended to have significant darkness with limited total darkness during the night cycle gameplay.
*Revision: Game objects and requesting object data in the core game loop has been revised to improve object interaction game mechanics like resource gathering, looting and interacting with existing world objects such as vehicles and generators. Object types have been redefined and may not interact correctly with previous save games.
*Revision: Walls for base building are now taller with a 4:5 ratio. Base walls are now 4 units wide and 5 units tall. The new ratio brings base building closer to the intended design and visual aesthetic.
*Revision: Two new base building assets are available as non-functional or decorative items that can be placed in Camp building mode. As more game mechanics are developed, Extractor Pumps and Supply Boxes will become items of interest during some game activity.
*Revision: A major texture pack revision was required and has improved the visual quality several game objects. Several new textures have been added or assigned to game objects such as Mushrooms, Vehicles, and Ore Boulders.
Some items now appear much more vibrant or brighter than intended due to the removal of PBR material and frequent texture revisions are expected during this phase of development.
*Revision: Gathering Ore from boulders is disabled while craft recipes and Resources are being examined and designed. Previous gatherable resources are still active. Mushrooms and Ice can be gathered and processed in the inventory.
Mixed Dirt, & Molten Rock can be gathered from terrain but cannot be processed.
