MECH OPS 2092 changes
Hello everyone
We've accomplished a lot for the month for only two people in the team.
Steam post imageWe're currently working on the core mechanics, developing the game architecture, and preparing the first build (closed to the public for now). It's hard to show things like that, as they're just lines of code and blueprints, but we do have some things we can show.
The model and rig of the Light Elite Mech have been completed, and rough animations for it have been prepared. It's a fast enemy unit which actively maneuvers and quickly retreats in case of danger.
Unit painting mechanics have been implemented. This mechanic is universal: every unit in the game will be painted in the colors of its faction. The player's mech can also be painted, and the troops the player commands will be painted in the player's colors.
Weather mechanics have been added. In different biomes, all units will become dirty according to their surroundings: dust, mud, sand, snow, and rain.
Wear mechanics have been added; scratches and rust can be visible. We'll use them dynamically on any unit, along with the unit or item's quality indicator. A worn-out device has worse stats than a new or well-maintained one.
You can see all of this in the video below:
We've also been working on a HUD sketch; we're still experimenting with the layout of the parts; we want to achieve the effect of an aviation-style military HUD.
In addition to the visuals, the interface now also has a fully functioning radar that marks different unit types in different colors. We just need to put the visuals and functionality together.
We're also experimenting with auto-aiming for small arms. We're not planning to turn our game into an Armored Core series with full auto aim, but for some secondary weapons, it's convenient to have them aim automatically so you don't have to distract yourself from firing your primary weapon. Auto-aiming mechanics will likely be weapon-specific upgrades.
New weapons, shoulder module and mech arms have also been added. We currently have 7 of the 30 announced main weapons. Steam post imageSteam post imageSteam post imageSteam post image
In addition to the content, numerous bugs have been fixed, and optimizations and improvements have been made in many aspects of the game. Main menu and settings aded, but they don't have a final UI yet. A new weapon architecture has been added to make adding new guns quick and easy. A lot of work has been done with VFX. Projectile optimization has been improved so our large armies can fire without interruption. Units and missiles behavior has been improved, animations have been tweaked, and much more.
