These things are inconspicuous, but if you don't do them, the lag will never be fixed, and the sandbox mode will not be able to hold up.

Dear city builders, seeing each other is like meeting each other.

Halfway through April, the 30 fellow pioneers have been working on the muddy construction site for a week. We have recorded your complaints and bug screenshots in our notebooks and are working on fixes overnight. I want to tell you a few things today: We participated in the Steam Medieval Game Festival (Steam Medieval Games Fest), what exactly have been done in the past few months, and what time points will follow are closely related to everyone.

  • Let me speak from my heart first: In these five months, we mainly "break" and then "establish"”

During the Pioneer test, although everyone felt that there was still room for improvement in optimization, they sincerely gave us feedback that the game had "changed quite a lot" and that "the gameplay and UI have become more detailed", and they were particularly looking forward to our sandbox experience.

Thanks. real.

In the past five months, most of what we have done is "invisible work underneath" - rebuilt the city wall system from scratch, rewritten the pathfinding mechanism, dismantled the entire text frame and put it back together again, and used AI tools to add 12 languages for overseas players. These things are inconspicuous, but if you don't do them, the lag will never be fixed, and the sandbox mode will not be able to hold up.

So this version of the Demo may still be in the throes of reconstruction, and optimization is not over yet. But the foundation is indeed stronger than before.

Timeline, take a look first

  • April 20 (UTC+8 time zone, the same below)10:00: The original Playtest has been removed from the Steam store page, and the exclusive Demo for the Medieval Game Festival has been listed. The first version does not include sandbox mode yet

  • April 21 1:00 ~ April 28 1:00: Steam Medieval Game Festival official event page display period.

  • April 24 10:00:PushThis timeDemo update, Unblock sandbox mode. Systems such as retainers, war of words, national policy, diplomacy, and title systems have been implemented.

  • Lasts until after the May Day holiday: The Demo will continue to be open for a period of time, and the specific removal time will be notified separately. The entire May Day holiday is enough for everyone to take their time.

  • What changes have been made to the core system?

In this test version:

We rebuilt the city walls and other large underlying functional modules from scratch.

Urban operation has added 8 new functional buildings such as prison, pavilion, execution platform, hospital, and warehouse.。

architectureMain functions
JailImprison those who have rebelled or committed crimes to maintain public security and order.
Police StationImprove the security level of surrounding areas, reduce the incidence of rebellion or quickly suppress rebellion
GuillotineExecution of civil servants with serious crimes will frighten civilian husbands, reduce the probability of rebellion, and influence public opinion
HospitalConsume herbs and other supplies and heal sick and injured civilians
pharmacyProduce medicine to treat internal or external injuries and consume it in hospitals to treat civilians
Transport StationNewly made logistics nodes for transporting materials over long distances
farmlandAllow players to grow food and herbs
armoryStore weapons and equipment

Ø We have completely rewritten the text framework of the game. Now the game has been implemented and supports 12 languages, and supports real-time switching within the game.

Ø The team investigated and fixed a large number of deep-seated bugs one by one, covering abnormal combat displacements, formation deformations, lags caused by accumulation of logistics capacity, and various crash issues.

Ø Numerical values, formulas and rhythm optimization: In addition to the new content visible to the naked eye, we have also conducted an in-depth review and optimization of the game’s basic numerical values, production formulas, and overall operation and development rhythm, striving to make the city’s development experience smoother and more reasonable.

I hope everyone can truly feel that the underlying framework of the game has become more solid during actual play.

  • List of key new gameplays

In this Pioneer server, everyone can experience the following newly implemented core modules in depth:

City walls and defenses (reconstruction): Now you can build city walls made of wood and rammed earth independently, and they do not belong to each other. City defense facilities such as bed crossbows can be placed on the city walls, and the facilities can be turned using the F key. Soldiers are positioned more closely on the city wall, and a single section of the city wall can accommodate more soldiers for defense. The destroyed city walls also support in-situ reconstruction.

Terrain height difference and pseudo-physical combat: The battle introduces height difference calculation: attacking from a high place to a low place (such as a city wall diving to the ground) will cause higher damage, while attacking from a low place to a high place will cause lower damage. At the same time, a new attack mechanism is added. Soldiers will fly out along a parabola after being shot up. The flight distance and height are linked to the attack power and speed of the attacker. The new unit "chariot" has been installed, consisting of a driver and 2 attached soldiers, supporting multiple formations to launch charges.

Farm rotation and logistics network: Farmland now supports polygonal free enclosure construction. Agriculture has introduced a year-round four-season farming process and a land fertility system. Players can set up a two-field or three-field rotation system and start a fertilization plan to maintain soil fertility. The new "warehouse" building supports point-to-point transportation, and can finely set the local reserved quantity and remote supply quantity of items.

Natural disasters and diseases: At most one natural disaster (such as a tornado, meteorite or plague) occurs randomly every year and cannot be predicted in advance. The tornado will continue to move and cause area damage. When a meteorite hits the ground, it will not only cause area damage, but also generate special meteorite ore. The plague cannot be cured and will spread from node to node, but the surviving civilians will become stronger.

Public opinion and rebellion system: When public opinion is low for a long time, some civilians will show signs of preparing for rebellion. Civilians in a rebellious state will refuse to work and may actively attack buildings. Players can maintain law and order through township pavilions, or order arrests, imprisonment, or even execution to quell rebellions.

Experience and Operation Optimization (Overview)

In order to make it easier for everyone to build a city and unite the army, we have optimized many interactive details:

Quick search and highlighted inventory: Added powerful quick search function. Press the Enter key to support Chinese, Pinyin or initial letter fuzzy matching to quickly search and build the corresponding building; press the Tab key to switch to item search mode. After entering the item name, the game will directly highlight the location and specific inventory figures of all warehouses storing the item on the map, making the resource inventory clear at a glance.

Pathfinding and formation: A new chain pathfinding mechanism has been implemented, allowing troops to correctly plan routes and supporting smooth formation changes when moving multiple troops across lines.

One-click copying of buildings: A new copy and paste (Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V) function for building configurations has been added, which can quickly synchronize production recipes, farmland plans, etc., and supports one-click application to all similar own buildings with the click of a button.

Global information panel: A new historical message recording panel has been added to the left sidebar, which records the triggered game time and supports filtering by type, making it easier for players to trace the source of events at any time. Supports Chinese fuzzy matching to search building names, and can switch item search mode for quick inventory.

  • Why is the sandbox gameplay not available yet?

The retainer system, diplomacy, title, war of words, and national policy nine-square grid—these sandbox exclusive gameplays will be temporarily locked during the Pioneer test and the early stage of the demo.

The reason is simple: they are too deeply linked to events, and we are still doing the final numerical and logical series connection.

April 24, 10:00, This part will be fully unlocked. There are more strategic gameplays, looking forward to your experience.

  • Finally, it’s the same old saying

This time it is still a staged experience version.

The underlying refactoring is huge, there are definitely still bugs, and some parts may still make everyone scratch their heads.

However, the producer and the entire development team will read the feedback documents one by one and respond carefully.

We will carefully record every complaint everyone makes and follow up overnight to improve our code.

See you at the Steam Medieval Game Festival on April 20th for the demo.
