changedWhat was Planned for the Full VersionA long time ago we prepared a roadmap for the game. Although at the time we did not really feel confident enough to publicly commit to it, we would like to take this opportunity to share it with you, especially because we want you to know the level of polish and scope we have in store for Lost in the Open.
changedWhat was Planned for the Full VersionNaturally, priorities would shift during development, with some features moving up and others being deprioritized based on your feedback and development capacity. But the ambition was to explore all of the above in Early Access, and implement most of it by 1.0.
changedWhat was Planned for the Full VersionThe depth of gameplay in Lost In The Open is something we believe to be unique for the genre. Our goal was to combine that depth with a fully realized narrative, cinematics, proper onboarding and tutorial structure, and broader meta-progression systems surrounding the campaign itself.

We wanted to reach out to give you an update on the development status of Lost in the Open.

Since our Early Access launch in September 2025, we’ve been working hard to find a sustainable way to continue development. Unfortunately, the launch did not create the traction we were hoping for and sales didn't provide the resources needed to keep the development going in full force, for the scale originally intended.

After spending a lot of time discussing internally, both within Black Voyage Games and together with our publisher, we had to make the difficult decision to pause development on Lost in the Open's for the time being.

There were a few ideas on the table on how to run the project on a limited budget, but that would mean compromises on our vision for the final version of the game: completing all 3 Acts and their content, as well as all core features in place.

We want to be very specific here, we genuinely mean a pause. A hiatus. Everyone at Black Voyage Games as well as the team at WhisperGames, still loves working on (and playing) Lost in the Open and still believe in King Nrvesk's journey for redemption. We will both continue to look for opportunities to resume full development in the future.

What was Planned for the Full Version

A long time ago we prepared a roadmap for the game. Although at the time we did not really feel confident enough to publicly commit to it, we would like to take this opportunity to share it with you, especially because we want you to know the level of polish and scope we have in store for Lost in the Open.

Naturally, priorities would shift during development, with some features moving up and others being deprioritized based on your feedback and development capacity. But the ambition was to explore all of the above in Early Access, and implement most of it by 1.0.

The depth of gameplay in Lost In The Open is something we believe to be unique for the genre. Our goal was to combine that depth with a fully realized narrative, cinematics, proper onboarding and tutorial structure, and broader meta-progression systems surrounding the campaign itself.

The outline still exists. What we lack right now is the ability to properly realize all the features Lost in the Open deserves.

Plans for the Future

Right now, the team is shifting focus to other projects to ensure we can sustain ourselves. When circumstances change and we find a path that allows us to return to Lost in the Open’s development, we will be sharing the news with all of you here.

Thank you for supporting the game, sharing feedback, and believing in the project throughout Early Access. It means a lot to us.

If you have questions or just want to chat with our team, please reach out to us in Lost in the Open's Discord server. We’re still there and always happy to hear from you!

Cheers,

Black Voyage Games & WhisperGames
