Lost Assassin - A Tale of AI Corruption changes
It's been a minute since we have updated Lost Assassin. There has been some developments!
In the past couple of months, life has given us the chance to come back and review the state of the game and plan on a full relaunch. Being a small team of two means the most valuable resource is time. Covid (work related committments due to Covid) really took the life out of game dev, but we are back!
Below you will find some info on what to expect in the coming months with Lost Assassin.
Simpler and Refined Gameplay:
There are things the game was doing well and things that were basically buggy or broken. We are stripping back the game to a simpler and more refined linear game with an emphasis on the gunplay and exploration elements. Redesiging levels to be more rewarding to play and visually appealing.
More refined enemy AI and appearance
AI: The enemies were problematic to use in many settings. Micheal has been working very hard at creating more stable enemies which will provide a richer and more immersive experience for the player.
Appearance: I am aiming to reimport all enemies, weapons, icons and the main player models to be more in line with where we want them to be. The biggest change will be the use of Unity bones animation instead of importing sprite sequences. This will create a much more natural look and feel to the animations.
Fun fact! This player model revision will be the 4th iteration!
Remaking all levels
This is a big one. We were relatively happy with the levels, but in recent years Unity has introduced some added features to 2D mode so we are very excited on the possibilities. I am currently designing some levels with a much more natural and flowing look when compared to the current blocky style. There is really no comparison between the old and new levels that are coming. I am also adding higher quality textures and have been learning a lot more about the art of creating levels with set themes.
Current Levels use the older 9 slice which is limiting in what shapes are possible.
New Levels are more flowing and natural looking
Story Plot
We want to introduce a better story to the game that has some surprises and more reason to play to the end. I have a plotline all worked out and am excited to see how it plays out in game alongside the combat and exploration.
Slight name change.
We will be reviewing the title of the game. It will help with the relaunch of the title and make it more consistent with the storyline. At this stage the main name will be the same but a subtitle will be added.
That's about all for now!
The biggest reason for the update is to let you all know we have not forgotten or abandoned Lost Assassin. It's just been a tough time for many during Covid but even advanced robotic AI's have to take a break sometimes.
Cheers
Kain and Michael.
