Carving My Own Path: A Woman’s Journey to Create ‘Lord Ambermaze’

I’m Anna, the creative visionary, artist, and lead developer of Lord Ambermaze!

In our small team, I handle everything except programming—my husband Alex takes care of that. Although I initially studied to be a programmer because I wanted to make games, I ended up discovering my passion for art during my second year of university. My journey in game development began as an artist on a mobile project, and since then, I've worked on various other projects, including three board games, an animated short film, and, of course, many mobile games.

But I’ve always wanted to create something of my own, which is why I decided to pursue my projects in 2019. I find inspiration in the ability to create something cool and interesting and express my creativity. In any project, 10% consists of exciting and inspiring tasks, while 90% is routine and tedious work. However, motivation comes from seeing the results and watching your own project come to life and grow.

Not everything comes easily. The biggest challenge is making it to the finish line. Sooner or later, you get tired of one project, your head is full of new ideas, but you have to focus on the current game. I also struggle with delegating tasks to others and seeing things go wrong that aren’t due to my own mistakes.

My favorite game is Beyond Good & Evil, and I have a tattoo of the main character, Jade, on my arm. Other favorites include Red Dead Redemption 2—I've played it multiple times and fell in love with the world and the characters, especially Dutch. I have plans of my own; I just need a little more money!

I want to encourage all the women out there working on their games or dreaming of doing so—don’t be afraid to express yourselves and create! Even if things don’t go as planned, don’t fear making mistakes. Remember to always stay true to yourself, your desires, and your creativity. We are carving our own path!
