Kill The Music changes
This new major update focuses on changes that respond to the feedback we got from the February 2025 Steam Next Fest.
We’ve revamped Kill The Music's major gameplay related to dodging, solos and visual clarity. We’ve also added some quality of life features like Beat Sync Adjustment Settings.
We have another big update coming later this month featuring Unlocks and Cutscenes, stay tuned and thanks for playing!
Kill The Music Demo Changelog v0.43
MAJOR CHANGES
Dodges are now executed by holding the Dodge Input and releasing the button to “quick stop” (Previously dodges were a single input and quick stop was done through an additional input)
Dodges can now be “curved” by pressing movement input during the dodge.
Visual Clarity improvements through UI, background color, and enemy color polish.
The Solo mechanics have been reworked to involve quick rhythmic inputs that power the player’s knockback range on completion (combat is paused during, making it feel like a "solo")
Solo will now change the player sprite to that instrument’s assigned character for the duration of the solo.
We removed “Double Time” and “Double Time on Solo” from the upgrade options pool and instead created a Mode Select at the start of your run.
Added a new setting in the main menu called “Beat Adjust” that allows players to add or subtract “beat delay” to tailor the feel of the beat sync to the players preferences.
Buffed the drum instrument’s ability to attack multiple enemies by adding a small “impact” on hit.
Removed combo “breaking” or “resetting” on missed beat hits and instead set misses to -1 Combo Counter (no inputs will have no effect, allowing players to drop the rhythm monetarily to re-focus or re-adjust)
We now allow dodges not "on-beat" for combat flexibility but they will -1 your Combo Counter as a result.
MINOR CHANGES
Several Bug Fixes to combat and menu navigation.
Overall Balance Polish to enemy and boss stats.
Tutorial Polish regarding pacing, wording and presentation
Beat Circle Polish regarding animation speed and easing
Improved Overall Beat Sync
Settings are now saved and applied on start up (audio/window/beat sync)
Revamped song pool with a smaller selection of songs (including new songs) as we polish up and revamp our previous tracks.
Added a new “slow follow” enemy for earlier rounds to ease players into the balancing rhythm and combat.
Added automatic transparency to beat circle as combo count gets higher to slowly transition player to pay more attention to combat (this gets reset on misses or solo)
Revamped Hints in pause menu
KNOWN BUGS
Dodge Heal Upgrade will sometimes cause the player to be unable to take damage
