Kalyskah changes
In the past, whenever someone asked us: “Will Kalyskah ever support mods?”, our answer was always “ no ”. However, now that we are rebuilding the game’s foundations, that answer has changed to a cautious “ maybe ”.
As we mentioned earlier, we are moving the core systems to C++, making different parts of the game more modular, and ensuring that the game becomes more and more data-driven. The main goal is to make Kalyskah more stable, better optimised, and easier for us to expand without having to perform another major refactoring later.
While studying how to structure these systems, we realised that we are already moving in the right direction to potentially release editor tools that would allow players to create mods for the game!
The initial idea would be relatively small: allowing people to replace textures and body sets, add animations, edit weapon attributes and make similar changes. Depending on how interested people are, we could eventually expand those tools to support more ambitious projects, such as creating new quests or custom scripts\\powers.
We would also love to make fan translations possible someday. However, translation support would require a deeper restructuring of some systems and the creation of user interfaces that we cannot currently afford to prioritise.
This is not a confirmed feature or something that would replace our work on the main game. Our priority remains completing the improved core systems, returning to full main-quest development, and preparing Kalyskah for Early Access.
Still, now with our shift in the current development framework, these goals are beginning to be feasible on the horizon! The same modular architecture that helps our programmers, writers and animators work in parallel could also make it much easier for the community to create new content in the future.
So, we would like to hear from you:
Would modding tools interest you?
What kinds of mods would you most like to create or use?
And how soon after the improved systems are released and main-quest development is moving forward again would you like us to begin exploring them?
