Infinite Orienteering: The Hiker's Path changes

Our biggest update yet

A full visual overhaul of the terrain, async multiplayer so you can race yourself or your friends' ghosts using our share feature, a new Recent Maps hub, split analysis, map sharing, and Steam Deck support.

Terrain & Visual Overhaul

The world looks dramatically better and plays taller

  • Facelift across all forest types and dense forest, with new trees and foliage

  • Reworked grass and vegetation for every biome, with stronger biome-to-biome contrast

  • Grass now renders far into the distance (roughly out to 200m)

  • 3x more verticality, terrain is now much more mountainous and vertical, the more dramatic landscape enabling more interesting gameplay

  • Photoscanned mountain environment assets feeding the new look

Async Multiplayer (File Based) — Share Maps and Race Friends

A first step into multiplayer: race against other people's runs, asynchronously

  • Every map now has a shareable Map Code

  • Paste a code into Load Map ID on the New Game menu to play the exact same map

  • Export your attempts/replays as shareable files and import others'. A manual, offline-friendly way to compete

  • See other runners'name tags in the replay (toggleable)

  • Per-attempt checkboxes to show/hide each runner's trail on the map and in split analysis

  • Imported runs show up in Recent Maps, grouped under the shared map

Replay & Split Analysis

The replay system has been rebuilt around friend competition and your individual attempts

  • Attempts are grouped by map, with a per-map attempts list

  • New Split analysis tab: leg-by-leg split times in a grid-aligned, monospaced comparison table

  • Replay playback aligned to each leg so you can compare attempts fairly

  • Many fixes to replay saving, timing, and re-entering the attempts window

Recent Maps

A new hub for revisiting maps you've played

  • New top-level Recent Maps menu from the main menu

  • Each map is a card with a thumbnail and a full-size preview on click

  • See when you last played, your attempt count, and the game version each map was made in

  • Watch Replay straight from a card. The historic map is redrawn from a saved snapshot, so old maps look exactly as they did (procedural generation compatibility is guaranteed within the same version, if you've played a map in an older version of the game to the version you're in, you'll get a warning)

Foundations for Steam Deck Support

Basic Steam Deck support. (Low fps, optimizations to come)

  • Native Steam Deck button glyphs and input hints throughout the UI

  • Automatically defaults to Steam Deck prompts on Steam Deck hardware (including OLED detection)

  • Fixed map and legend clipping on non-16:9 aspect ratios

  • Fixed handbook video playback on Steam Deck

Sound

Basic audio improvements

  • Control punch / arrival sounds with different meanings (correct/incorrect/finish, etc.) when you reach a control

  • "Out of breath" sprint-recovery sound system

Other Improvements

  • Increased sprint stamina speed and duration

  • Rowboats added on water

  • Various improvements to boulder (IOF 204 / 205 / 206) generation, graphics and map placement

  • Improved water interaction and looks

  • New north arrow indicator drawn in the map margin

  • Graceful map-generation failures: if a map can't be built, you should now get a clear, copyable error instead of a broken state

  • A "you are here"player position marker on the map (toggled by F7 on keyboard or Y on controller) has been added to dev mode

  • More entries to the handbook

  • Numerous UI, navigation, and stability fixes

Enjoy!

Update Sale & A Note on Pricing

With everything added in this update, and the work we've committed to going forward, we feel the game now offers a lot more than it did at its original price and release state. Because of that, we plan to move the base price to $18.99, or your regional equivalent, sometime after this update. We want the price to reflect the depth of the game as it grows, and this update is a big step in that direction.

Before that though, we will have a two week discount off of the original pricing immediately following this update.

Thank you for playing and for supporting the game's development. There's a lot more to come.
