Changelog 0.9.8.4 – Crowbar melee!

This update introduces the very first melee weapon: the crowbar! A big step forward from bare fists—more range, more damage, and a much smoother weapon switching system.

Melee weapons begin here – starting with the crowbar. You can now pick up a crowbar like any other weapon. Choose whether to equip it directly or stash it in your backpack. (For now, you can’t pull it out of the backpack into your hand—still thinking about how best to handle that. It’ll come after initial testing.)

Combat with the crowbar:

  • Now doesn’t degrade or require repairs (it’s a crowbar—what could possibly break when smashing a Raptus?)

  • Can be used for breaching if held in hand (still needs to be selected manually)

  • Deals solid damage, especially with headshots

  • Much better reach than fists or push attacks

Planned improvements (this is just the first version):

  • Hit sounds and effects (currently placeholder)

  • Better item interaction and physics on impact, including destructible objects

  • More melee weapons coming soon—knives, hammers, pipes, and whatever’s within reach

  • Weapon wear and repair systems, including crafting

  • Polished aiming animation (and honestly, compared to some AAA titles… it holds up!)

Melee will be your only weapon at the start. Other weapons will remain easy to find—for now…

Weapon switching improvements:

While working on melee, I’ve also reworked how weapons are picked up and swapped—much smoother now:

  • Default fire key [LBM] now triggers either a shot or a melee hit (crowbar or fists)

  • Picking up a new weapon or crowbar automatically moves the current one to body and equips the new one

  • Pressing 1, 2, 3 keys switches weapons. Might require double-tap, but it’s responsive

Other changes:

This update focuses entirely on melee and weapon switching. Also improved stackable item handling—should now transfer and copy selected amounts reliably in all situations.

What’s next?

Adding melee weapons wraps up a key feature set and opens the door to major gameplay changes. Soon, acquiring or crafting weapons will become a reward and a challenge. Or maybe you prefer close contact with a Raptus? Well…

The best time to grab ☵ HIRAETH – Steam Winter Sale 30% off!

Probably tomorrow there will be a separate announcement, but trust me: this is the right moment!

Enjoy some clubbing with the crowbar if that’s your style. Or perhaps a more “humane” quick and painless headshot with the sniper rifle?

Stay tuned for the weekend edition of Ahra Prime Times and have a great weekend!
