Guilds of Mountgate changes
Update v0.2.0.6 – Weather, Journal Expansion & More Improvements
Hello everyone,
with v0.2.0.6, we are releasing another larger update for Guilds of Mountgate. This update focuses mainly on the first fully integrated weather layer for the Living World, a significant Journal expansion, and a wide range of gameplay, UI, and quality-of-life improvements.
This patch also includes several changes based directly on your feedback. Some of you reported smaller issues, while others pointed out parts of the game that still felt a little clunky, unclear, or harder to use than they should be. That kind of feedback is incredibly helpful and plays a big role in making Guilds of Mountgate smoother and more enjoyable step by step.
So once again: thank you to everyone who has played, tested, reported bugs, shared criticism, or simply told us about their experience with the game. Especially at this early stage, that support is extremely valuable.
🌦️ The New Weather System
The biggest new feature in this update is the first fully integrated weather layer.
The World Event system has been expanded, meaning weather is no longer just an atmospheric detail. It is now becoming an actual part of the Living World. Weather is now displayed directly on the world map and can affect several gameplay systems.
Weather now affects:
player travel times
NPC trade caravans
freight and storage deliveries
early skills such as Fishing
The first visual rain effects have also been added, so weather is not only noticeable through systems and numbers, but also through the game’s presentation.
The world map has received improvements as well. Information layers can now be toggled on and off individually, giving players more control over what they want to see. Trade routes now also follow actual settlements on the map instead of being drawn as direct straight lines, making the map feel more natural and easier to understand.
📖 Journal Expansion
The Journal has been expanded and now includes recipes for:
Cooking
Crafting
Smithing
The goal is to make the Journal a more useful central source of knowledge as the game continues to grow.
The previous “Plants” category has also been renamed to “Foraged Goods”, which better represents the resources contained within that section.
📜 Quests & Progression
Quests should now feel more rewarding. Quest rewards have been increased and now grant noticeably more experience.
The quest backend has also been reworked to improve quest marker behavior, progress tracking, and overall quest reliability. This should help with several situations where quest progression previously felt a bit too clunky or unclear.
Players can now also unlock passive health regeneration through the Survival skill.
One early progression unlock has been adjusted as well:
The Birch Rod now unlocks at Crafting Level 7 instead of Crafting Level 11.
⚒️ Durability & Balance
The durability system has been reworked.
Tools now generally have lower durability pools. However, higher-quality tools are significantly less likely to lose durability in the first place. This should make tool quality feel more meaningful, without making durability feel unnecessarily annoying.
Mining, Smithing, and Crafting progression related to Gold has also been rebalanced.
❤️ Auto Health System
The Auto Health filter now automatically excludes food items that provide buffs.
This should prevent valuable or situational buff foods from being consumed automatically by accident. Players who still want to use buff foods with Auto Health can manually add them to the list.
🎨 UI & Quality of Life
Several UI improvements have been added as well.
The trading interface now uses larger icons, making items easier to read and recognize. Empty placeholder slots have been removed from merchant inventories, making the interface feel cleaner.
UI text and interface elements can no longer be accidentally selected while dragging the mouse.
Another useful quality-of-life improvement: all windows can now be closed with ESC. Windows close in reverse order of opening. If no windows remain open, ESC will still open the Settings menu as before.
To improve scaling and provide a more consistent user experience, all resolutions above 1080p are now automatically normalized.
🛠️ Fixes
This update also includes several smaller fixes, including:
several German localization fixes
smaller UI fixes
smaller gameplay-related fixes
Thank You for Testing!
This update is another step toward making Guilds of Mountgate more stable, more polished, and more alive. The new weather system in particular is an important foundation for future Living World features and will continue to grow in upcoming updates.
As always: if you notice bugs, unclear systems, rough edges, or have ideas, feel free to let us know. Many of the smaller improvements in this update came directly from that kind of feedback.
Thank you for playing and supporting Guilds of Mountgate!
