addedWe’re so excited about this time of the month! That marvelous time when we share our updates, new developments, hopes, and also some inevitable setbacks and even some fears. Guardian of Lore has come a long way, even in these trying times. The team is still quarantined, as must be most of our readership. It makes us incredibly happy to be able to share with you some of our many ups and -luckily- very few downs and bring some happiness into your day! Creating this indie game and building a community around it certainly brings lots of joy into ours. Wanna know what went down this month? Continue reading to find out!
changedIn-Game ChangesSayri Spells Trouble for his Enemies
addedIn-Game ChangesThere’ve been a TON of changes to the gameplay, as well as a few additions! For starters, Sayri has a healing spell now! Players can earn it in the tutorial. This spell has proven to be a great way to balance the gameplay and complete the spell system. The difference between this spell and the others lies in the fact that you can’t level it up, you find the power-ups across the game. When you acquire this new spell, or any other, for that matter, there’s a nifty new animation we’ve implemented. Check it out!
addedIn-Game ChangesWe have also changed several character animations, the most important being Sayri’s sword and axe attack combo. Now, enemies are sent flying and collapse after the last blow. This third, and final, blow also deals 25% more damage. What else is new, animation-wise? Sayri’s aerial sword attack, and an animation of a stunned Sayri after receiving a hard blow! We’re also working on an animation of Sayri casting a spell, it’s coming along quite nicely! Oh, you’d like some sneak peeks, right? You can find some in our Discord server ;)
changedMixing it up: Knowledge Points and New Bad GuysThere have been some interesting changes in the way you can earn and lose knowledge points. [By the way, in case you need a little refresher, knowledge points are collected throughout the game and work as a sort of currency/XP which allows you to level up spells and acquire other goodies.] Now, when you die, you lose knowledge. Ouch, it does feel a bit more dangerous, doesn’t it? Never fear, though, bosses drop knowledge during fights so you won’t go without. In a nutshell, don’t die too much and kick some good boss butt and you’ll have amazing spells! Oh, and bosses drop a scroll that maximizes your total HP. Pretty neat, huh?

In our last devlog, we were pretty open and honest about the challenges we were facing as game developers during the mandatory quarantine following the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak. Indie video game development from home is quite different and causes inevitable delays on different fronts. It forces development teams, in some cases, to direct their efforts to other areas of the project.
One of those areas we focused our attention on was growing a tight-knit community on Discord. We’re ecstatic to report that our followers are eloquent and insightful, and, most of all, fun! We’re thoroughly enjoying the experience of engaging with our Discord followers. Join us! Follow this link. We share exclusive content including game art in the form of Wallpapers, additional information on the video game characters, and even the original soundtrack of the first level.
On the same line, we have also been working on our mailing campaign and we’ve had a few more people test the game and give us their reviews.
