Good Children Say Grace changes
Thank you everyone for waiting! Please note that while early sections of the game appear to be functioning as intended, and definitely represent the game well, the build will be very actively updated throughout Steam Next Fest.
The Steam Next Fest demo is live. Ten days of intense work since the June 4th build, and the improvements are substantial. Not finished, not even close, but good enough to post, maybe.
Most of what changed came directly from your feedback.
There is now a Journal. People told me, often, that they had no idea what was going on with the story. So I built a way to track the story and get deeper insight into what your choices actually did. There are many invisible variables getting tracked, but I've come to realize that too many of them are hidden.
Color is now used as a navigation tool, with more pointers to cut down on the moments of standing in a room wondering where the game wants you to go.
Performance inside the apartment and across the starting levels is significantly better. The outside levels still need work.
New content has been added across existing areas, and the story itself has been restructured.
Most of the narrator and main character lines are now voiced in both English and Japanese.
There are more levels and locations to find, including a Prison, a School, and an Interrogation Room. The outside world has been massively expanded. Because of optimization issues, the full outside content will arrive a little later rather than all at once.
Mostly, I focused on creating a really strong prologue that communicates well the nature of the game.
Unfortunately, I had to remove this area from the build, because it completely destroys the performance of the game... It will be available once everything is optimized!
There is still a lot left to optimize, and a lot of written content sitting finished on my end and waiting to make it into the build.
This is still one person doing all of it, and the kind words people have sent me genuinely keep the thing moving. I read everything.
If you have thoughts, message me on X or leave them on the Steam Discussions page. There are definitely bugs, and I'm sorry about that, those are getting addressed as quickly as I can.
Wishlist and follow if you want to see where this goes.
