Happy Easter, fellow Chrisians!
Just as Christ yeeted himself into heaven a few weeks and a couple years ago, we’re again cranking out a new Update post for you, my beloved.
What we did last month:
1. We recorded our soundtrack with the Filmorchester Babelsberg!
Thanks to the super cool people from the as well Berlin-based AudioCreatures, we were part of their live recording sessions with the Babelsberg Film Orchestra this month. We spent two days at the film studios and had two 30-minute recording slots to record the 5 main tracks of our game with real humans. Having a 100% non-AI and hand-made soundtrack was/is really important to us to match our hand-made visuals and implementations. Therefore we were super stoked to hear our music live for the first time!!!
Around 50 people were involved in these recordings, most of them the truly fantastic musicians from the film orchestra. Both days were incredibly exciting and fun. Luca, our composer, and Markus from AudioCreatures did a fantastic job. There's even a short video of the live score recordings on YouTube that you can check out to get a feel for those two days!
2. We gathered a lot of playtesting feedback!
Fellow devs playtested our game and sent us gameplay videos with voiceovers that accumulated to 5 hours (!) of pure feedback with over 220 individual feedback points (of which we have implemented most) this month. Feedback we got and implemented were for example:
There should be a visual grid displayed when placing stuff on grid
Crops should display their neighbourhood range as radius (on hover over and before planting them)
Pots can only be picked up when hitting them on points that touch the ground (feels weird)
Items disappear when clicking them in a specific order (leftclick item A, rightclick item B)
Key rebinding is not working (still not fixed)
Overall the game still features a lot of information that is still not that easy to understand. How do you pick up stuff? How does neighourhood work? How does the compost work? These were question that arose during the playtest and were partly answered by themselves through playing. But these are still questions that could be answered more quickly with more targeted ingame guidance and information. We're working on that!
3. We weren't accepted for the Steam event we applied for.
Unfortunately, we were not accepted for the Steam event for which we wanted to produce our first official trailer. Therefore, trailer production is on hold for now, and we will reapply for a larger event at the end of the year with our demo and trailer as the entry fee. Hopefully we will be accepted then!!!!
And what are we currently working on?
1. A new devlog!
Alicia is currently working on a new devlog that covers our latest milestones like the before mentioned Live Score Recordings. We had a longer break from posting vlogs then we wanted to, mostly because Lion had a lot to do with bugfixing and playtesting and didn’t feel like making a video (he’s a bit burned out from YouTube video making). But that only means that this upcoming devlog will be even more fabulous!!!
2. Our future Discord server!
Additionally, we are tweaking our already set up but not yet public Discord server so that YOU can join it next month! The announcement will be part of the new devlog (so there are several reasons for you to watch the next video). The server is mostly meant to be a feedback and playtesting server – so if you have any interest in that, consider joining it!
And that’s it already for this month!
Next month we will (as mentioned) post a new devlog and launch our Discord server. So stay tuned for that!
If you would like to playtest our game well before its (demo) release to give us feedback AND have a chance to receive our game for free, you should consider following us on any social media so you do not miss the start of our beta playtesting program mid/end of this year!!! Don’t forget to add yeast! xoxo Golemon
Haven't watched our last devlog about how we make our dialogue portraits?
