Repeated intro

Hello Operators,

What changed

  • UI and audio
  • Gameplay
  • Server
changedUIThe UI has been completely redone. The color scheme now aligns with Terra Prime's arid and dusty landscape, to remind you of the kind of planet you're dealing with.
changedUIARIA's chat is now moved to a dedicated chat window sitting to the bottom left of your screen. Here, she can give you important notices about your factory. It's important to pay attention to these.
addedBuilding ShapesI had good intentions with the first iteration of the game where buildings took on a shape similar to how the building in the real world might function, i.e. the extractor looked like a drill. I realized that having all these buildings with vastly different shapes was not visually appealing and if you're like me, factory aesthetics is a must. So, all buildings now have a rectangular shape of varying sizes, save for the GenCore. This allows factories to be designed in a way that's pleasing to the eye.
changedBeltsThis is a huge one. In the first iteration of Genterra, belts were just lines connecting I/O ports on buildings with pulses moving on them to indicate items travelling. Now, belts are their own entity with visible items moving along them. There are currently Mk1 and Mk2 belts, with plans to expand to up to Mk5 in the future.
changedSettingsThe System Config (Settings) page has been redesigned. There are more options now for things like FPS limit and screen size as well as keyboard shortcuts and audio. Yes....finally audio.
changedAudioIn the original version of Genterra, there was no audio and that was on purpose. I still in the process of getting audio put together and I didn't want to give you something half completed.

There are numerous changes and I will outline some of the notable ones below.

This update will break any saves you currently have, but I have a feeling that's not really an issue lol

UI

The UI has been completely redone. The color scheme now aligns with Terra Prime's arid and dusty landscape, to remind you of the kind of planet you're dealing with.

ARIA's chat is now moved to a dedicated chat window sitting to the bottom left of your screen. Here, she can give you important notices about your factory. It's important to pay attention to these.

Building Shapes

I had good intentions with the first iteration of the game where buildings took on a shape similar to how the building in the real world might function, i.e. the extractor looked like a drill. I realized that having all these buildings with vastly different shapes was not visually appealing and if you're like me, factory aesthetics is a must. So, all buildings now have a rectangular shape of varying sizes, save for the GenCore. This allows factories to be designed in a way that's pleasing to the eye.

Belts

This is a huge one.

Inventory

I redesigned the inventory screen to better show what and where items are stored. This also allows you to pin items to the top of the screen so you can track whatever resource you want.

Recipes and Items

Every item has their own glyph. Care was taken to make sure their colors matched what they were made from with iron items being orange and copper being teal. There's even an in-game Database to give information about each recipe, item, and building.

Settings

The System Config (Settings) page has been redesigned. There are more options now for things like FPS limit and screen size as well as keyboard shortcuts and audio. Yes....finally audio.

Audio

In the original version of Genterra, there was no audio and that was on purpose. I still in the process of getting audio put together and I didn't want to give you something half completed.

Well, we now have audio. Most buildings where it makes to have sound now have SFX. We also have a 9 background tracks, one for the main menu and 8 that shuffle while you play. Hope you enjoy them :)

QOL

Being an avid factory player myself, I tried my best to make sure I prioritized ease of use. Things like keyboard shortcuts and quick deletes are a must for me so I added them to the game. Don't forget to look what they are in the System Config.

Conclusion

I think that covers most of the notable changes. Going forward, this is the style of the game, so hopefully there won't be any big, breaking changes in the future.
