Repeated intro

Hello Again ✨ December was one of those months where nothing looks revolutionary at first glance, but everything suddenly starts to feel like a real game. Less dreaming, more finishing. Less “what if,” more “this actually works.”

What changed

0 fixes3 additions3 changes0 removals
  • UI and audio
  • Maps
  • Gameplay
changed🧩 UI Problems, SolvedUI had been one of our biggest pain points. We wanted it to be cute, readable , and fully integrated into the world without breaking immersion. This month, we finally locked down solutions we’re happy with. The interface now feels intentional instead of temporary, which honestly lifted a huge mental weight from the project.🧊❄️
added⛏️ Biome Specific Digging AreasWe added unique digging areas for different biomes. Each one has its own visual identity and vibe, reinforcing the idea that every biome isn’t just a color swap but a distinct place with its own character.❄️
changed🧭 Rethinking the Menu & FlowWe revisited the main menu and overall navigation. The goal was to make the first interaction with the game feel cozy and inviting , not confusing or placeholder-ish. Menus matter more than they get credit for, and we treated this as part of worldbuilding rather than pure UI.
added🧙 New Characters, With Community HelpWe added new characters based on community feedback . Asking players what they want and then actually implementing it feels like the healthiest way to build this world. These characters help the game feel more alive and personal .
changed✍️ A Clear Font DecisionOriginally, many of our texts and maps were hand written. It looked charming, but it wasn’t sustainable or readable enough in-game. This month, we committed to a specific font that fits the world while keeping things clean and readable. It’s a small change that massively improves clarity .
added🐱 Yes, You Can Pet the CatYou can now click the cat. It meows.🐈

Our main goal this month was simple and slightly terrifying: Make Gemmy Gems playable for other people.

🛠️ From 2D Concepts to Polished 3D Scenes

Some of our 2D concept scenes didn’t translate well into Unity. We had already converted a few of them into 3D earlier, but this month we focused on polishing those scenes properly. Lighting, scale, composition, small environmental details… all the quiet stuff that makes a scene stop feeling like a prototype and start feeling like a place.

They’re now much closer to the cozy, stylized world we originally imagined.

🎮 Technical Demo: Playable, Finally

This was a big one for us. We pushed hard to get a proper technical demo ready. Something we could actually hand to people and say: “Go ahead, try it.”

The core loop works. Scenes connect. Systems talk to each other. There’s still polish and small details left, but the game is now in a state where it can be experienced, not just shown.

That shift changes everything.☃️🧤

🧩 UI Problems, Solved

⛏️ Biome Specific Digging Areas

We added unique digging areas for different biomes. Each one has its own visual identity and vibe, reinforcing the idea that every biome isn’t just a color swap but a distinct place with its own character.❄️

🧭 Rethinking the Menu & Flow

🧙 New Characters, With Community Help

✍️ A Clear Font Decision

Originally, many of our texts and maps were hand written. It looked charming, but it wasn’t sustainable or readable enough in-game. This month, we committed to a specific font that fits the world while keeping things clean and readable. It’s a small change that massively improves clarity.

🐱 Yes, You Can Pet the Cat

You can now click the cat. It meows.🐈

December was about closing gaps. Turning ideas into systems, visuals into playable spaces, and a project into something people can actually touch.

January is looking like a playtest-heavy month, and we’re excited (and a little scared, in a good way).

Thanks for reading and supporting Gemmy Gems 💜 More soon.

Don’t forget to wishlist and follow the project if you like cozy games with shiny rocks and questionable life choices.
