Gargadusa's Tower changes
A big rollup with bug fixes, balance corrections, a faction-buff sweep, and a some more Linux/Ubuntu fixes. Also, I have made major headway with localization/translation upgrades, so you will start to see those sneak into the game in the coming weeks.
Also! The BOOK is out tomorrow on Amazonnnnn.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Bug Fixes ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Linux launch fix (Ubuntu 24.04+): Game no longer crashes at launch with a chrome-sandbox error. The manual chmod 4755 workaround is no longer required.
Garrison stuck after defeating Floor 100 — Recall button now stays accessible post-victory with a "Tower conquered — recall at your leisure" subtitle.
Quest Board / Tactician assessment displayed a programmer string ("board_recklessness_calculated") instead of the recklessness label. The four tiers — Calculated / Risky / Reckless / Suicidal — now render correctly across quest, raid, and party assessments, with a defensive fallback so the level word always shows even if localization fails.
Heraldic Update (Noble Houses) now correctly improves applicant quality for the duration of the buff.
Salon Invitation (Noble Houses) now correctly nudges reluctant applicants toward signing.
Etiquette Training (Noble Houses) now correctly boosts the receptionist's effective skill — improving auto-renewal negotiations, applicant impression accuracy, and haggle success rate.
Holy Water Flask (Temple) now correctly grants +15% damage against undead-flavored tower bosses (all Tier 9 Doom Spire bosses plus scattered phantom/wraith/ghost-themed bosses on earlier floors).
Master Lockpick Set (Underworld) now correctly increases tower loot — both equipment count and material drop quantities.
Forged Credentials (Underworld) now correctly improves shadow operation success rate.
Rival-initiated trade offers no longer eat your weekly trade-caravan capacity. Caravans you send count; caravans rivals send to you don't.
Rival-initiated trade offers no longer block your own outbound trades or poach attempts with that guild for a week.
"Declined" badges now clear correctly when you accept an inbound adventurer trade from a guild that previously declined one of your offers.
Trade Ledger counter now increments on all completed trades with a rival (player-initiated material trades, gear sales, adventurer transfers, trading-block buyouts, contract sales, and rival poaching all count toward the +10% Preferred Partner threshold).
- Faction succession letters showed unfilled {{factionName}}{{deceasedName}} Has Passed placeholders — subject lines now render the resolved names.
Confirm dialogs in the Merchants and Crown faction service modals showed raw text ("service_confirm_title_merchant_trade") — both now display "Confirm Purchase" and "Confirm Crown Service" respectively.
Diplomatic Immunity (Crown permanent upgrade) now actually reduces standing losses across all sources, not just the one site that worked before. Failed faction quests, contract risk penalties, faction dispatches with political fallout, Underworld op failures + discoveries, and cross-faction rivalry ripples all now respect the advertised −50%.
Crown Admin tab: the Letter List no longer gets squeezed by the Requisition Shop section. Reading correspondence is comfortable again.
Crown Oath Intelligence Network's standing bonus now actually delivers when stacked with edicts.
Faction standing ripples no longer asymmetrically punish you. Positive ripples (like Crown → Nobles +0.2 ratio) were rounding to zero on every success; negative ripples were rounding harsher than expected. Now use symmetric rounding.
Bench adventurers can no longer be claimed by multiple parties at once. Old saves with corrupted dual-membership state self-heal on load.
Astrologer party advice and staff insight panels now correctly exclude adventurers queued for another party's pending lineup.
Injury and rest week counters no longer drift to ugly fractional values (1.4633000000000003 weeks). Old saves heal automatically on load.
Demand escalation values on adventurers and free agents no longer accumulate float drift.
Crown Cup combat now properly uses your effective party OVR — synergies, chemistry, captain bonuses, and guild effects all translate into real combat damage.
Rival Challenge combat mirrors the same fix — rival's displayed OVR and combat math now both reflect their class synergies.
Rival Challenge no longer softlocks when you don't have 5 eligible adventurers to fill a party. A "Forfeit Match" button is now available on the announce and party-selection phases (Esc dismisses as forfeit).
Rival Challenge winnings now appear in the Weekly Summary balance (Credits − Debits matches Net).
Chirurgeon recovery bonus now applies for normal-hired Chirurgeons (the most common case). Previously only retirement-converted Chirurgeons triggered the bonus.
Profession quest bonuses for Cook (+5% party OVR), Diviner (+15% crit), Chirurgeon (+15% quest-time injury reduction), Chronicler (+10% renown), and Cartographer have all been restored. None were firing properly.
Cartographer now actually reduces quest travel time and ambush setbacks. The implementation finally matches the description.
Construction project weekly labor costs now appear as line items in the Treasury transaction ledger. Construction supply-shortage events (extra labor cost from disrupted supply lines) also now appear. Treasury balance, weekly net, and runway numbers are unchanged — this only adds the missing visibility.
Rebalanced bone-plate and cloth refinement recipes that were doubling/tripling player gold per cycle.
Warehouse quality bonuses now actually increase your material storage cap. A Quality Build / Superior / Masterwork warehouse delivered the cap increase the UI promised — pre-fix, the bonus was displayed but the actual storage limit stayed at the base tier value.
"Proven" trait description no longer shows a stray backslash.
Weekly Report's "Parties Available" section no longer omits parties that became available via injury recovery or rest-skip.
Weekly Report wording for newly-available parties is now path-agnostic ("is now available for assignment").
Death memorial Sun Sign displays capitalized properly ("Aries" instead of "aries").
Death memorial Final Level falls back to live roster data if the death snapshot is missing the value.
Academy curriculum picker can now re-lock the same curriculum after a semester reset.
Academy graduation tier now reflects the post-training category state. A focused trainee whose categories were bumped to A/S by training emphasis no longer graduates displaying B-Tier overall.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Balance ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Field-lock on equipment for deployed parties. Gear is editable during the deploy week only — once a quest, raid, contract, or dispatch ticks past week 1, the party is "out of contact" and gear is frozen until they return. Closes the artifact-uptime exploit (one Legendary, two parties, hot-swap mid-quest). Equip / Unequip / Swap buttons disable with an explicit "⚠ Out of contact — {name} (week N/M)" reason. Garrison and tower are exempt.
Mulling exploit closed: withdrawing during a "Mulling It Over" negotiation outcome now leaves a brief cooldown on the applicant. You can no longer withdraw and re-submit the same offer for a fresh acceptance roll.
Chain of Command"Stay Neutral" military response no longer penalizes Noble standing. Truly neutral now.
Intelligence Network (Crown Oath, Revered tier) replaced its broken "+10% all faction standing gains" multiplier with a deterministic flat +1 standing per successful faction quest.
Chirurgeon recovery bonus now scales with Chirurgeon skill. Skill-50 (median) delivers the historical +20% recovery / +25% HP regen baselines; skill-99 masters deliver up to +40% / +50%. The best Chirurgeon present runs the surgery. Chirurgeons might be a bit OP on the high end, but I'm here for it.
Academy rival interest is no longer a perfect tier oracle. Players could previously wait for AI scouting and enroll only the watched prospects to guarantee A/S-Tier graduates. Now ~10% of S-Tier and ~15% of A-Tier prospects appear with no rival interest (requiring active scouting), and ~8% of C-Tier prospects appear with rival interest (false positives that punish blind interest-filtering).
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Quality of Life ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
- Starting recruit pool floors raisednew games now guarantee at least 4 of each combat role (Tank/Healer/Melee/Ranged) and at least 2 scouts in the founding free-agent pool.
"Decide Later" deferral on age-retirement modal. When you don't have a free staff slot to commission a retiring adventurer, you can now dismiss the modal for one week instead of being forced to pick.
Inline staff release in the retirement panel. When retiring an adventurer to a single-occupant role (Astrologer / Tactician / Bartender / Receptionist / Quartermaster / Treasurer) and the slot is full, you can release the current occupant directly from the retirement panel without leaving the registry view. The retirement panel also shows the existing occupant's skill ("SKL N", color-coded by tier) next to the Release button so you can compare.
"Time to Grad" sort added to academy trainees — trainees about to graduate now correctly sort to the top.
Show Dismissed view in the Adventurers recruit tab — toggle to see the dismissed pile and Restore individual recruits via the detail panel.
Party-Change Queue now works on raid-active parties (previously quest-only). Plan a lineup swap; it applies when the raid completes.
AAA-quality material trade offer cards in both the Front Desk inbox and the Markets panel — single shared component with stock context, trust labels, and per-side quantity breakdowns.
Trade-offer poach attempts now surface a weekly digest popup. Single-rival weeks render a one-line notification; multi-rival weeks render a scrollable list. Auto-decline-all suppresses the popup.
Block Material Trade Offers toggle in the Trade Filters tab — stops rivals from pinging you with material trade proposals while leaving adventurer trades and other interactions unaffected.
Block Adventurer Trade Offers sibling toggle — same per-type granularity for poach/swap/sale offers.
Trust level labels ("Hostile", "Neutral", "Allied", etc.) localized to the rivals namespace for future locale support.
Weekly Report now surfaces academy semester completions alongside Training Completed and Staff Improved sections. No more silent academy progress.
Tournament of Arms: the Realm Herald now names the winner and the stat they sharpened.
Text selection disabled globally. No more accidental highlighting on UI labels, badges, and emoji-as-button icons. Native input fields keep their text caret.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Diagnostics & Stability ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
In-game Copy Diagnostic button on the post-crash banner and in Settings → Game → Diagnostics. Copy the last week-processing crash data to clipboard for bug reports.
Crash diagnostic captures which subsystem crashed (faction-system, roster-mechanics, recruitment-quests, etc.) — narrows future bug investigation from "somewhere in 19,000 lines" to one of ~10 named sections.
