Fleetbreakers changes
Fleetbreakers is all about pushing the boundaries of a Roguelite Strategy game. This week, we’re excited to share a closer look at a new feature centered around Corruption.
Corruption-based enemies (Pylons and Corruptor units) introduce a new element to Fleetbreakers where the evil Voltari can actually turn the player's dead squadrons against them. This feature is designed to showcase enemy unique abilities that the player cannot access. It’s also a new layer of strategic decision making that will keep things fresh and players on their toes.
Our goal is to make every battle feel interactive. Here are some additional details on how it currently works:
Corruption zones, from a Pylon corruption aura or a Corruptor unit, are visual areas on the map that players will want to avoid. Losing a unit, then having it get corrupted and fight back against you could be a big swing in a fight.
That can change how players prioritize targets (Corruptor unit) and change positioning (Pylons), which also makes attack facing more valuable, too.
Due to the imbalance of this, we are weighing making Corruptor units be more of a glass cannon type unit. We will be trying different HP levels in our playtests in the coming weeks.
Internally, we have been debating whether or not it would corrupt the entire squadron at once or a single unit. We decided it would be too punitive to corrupt the entire squadron, so the current plan is to focus on the unit that it kills.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on Corruption. What would you like to see? Your ideas help shape the game!
