addedWelcome or Welcome Back!To try to alleviate that, I've added a new, short, guided tutorial that has room to be expanded in the future, as more frequently asked questions emerge. If you have something you're unsure of LET ME KNOW! I can answer it and add it in there. If there's enough questions asked and answered, I'm happy to create a new page in the game with a series of different tutorials, explaining everything from the very basics to complex interactions - I just need to know what isn't clear (which is probably quite a few things at the moment!)
changedGuided TutorialAn overview of the combat log, and how to view cards played by the boss, along with an example of what a card with a status effect may look like in terms of both visuals and tips from examining the boss card.
changedConcise Card TextAnother issue was that card text was LONG, and being met with a paragraph over and over was probably pretty tiring pretty quickly. As such, EVERY CARD - AND I DO MEAN EVERY CARD - has been looked at to try to make it a little more concise without losing meaning. These were batched in a big .txt file then spell checked, since - and I'm going to be honest here - even I grew tired of reading these cards after writing all the definitions AGAIN and then going back to spell check them. Let me know of any issues!
addedMisc Changes:Morgue from the discord pointed out a very obvious thing that I forgot to add - an Obol counter to Charon's fight. I've mended that, and he now has a swanky new counter beneath his portrait. Should help for clarity - thank you for the suggestion!
fixedMisc Changes:Also fixed a bug where Charon was using Kalfu's barks at certain intervals, which wasn't intended. Noticed that one in testing, so now Charon's back to his usual groany self instead of randomly having moments of verbose clarity.

Welcome or Welcome Back!

Firstly, thank you to everyone that played during next fest, there was a good amount of interest in the game with wishlists increasing by over double (!!!). Massive thanks to those that tried it out, I got quite a bit of feedback regarding the game, and I recognise the sorest point right now is the game asks you to read a LOT of text with very little direction.

To try to alleviate that, I've added a new, short, guided tutorial that has room to be expanded in the future, as more frequently asked questions emerge.

With all that said, let's talk patch notes - the majority of this is the tutorial so:

Guided Tutorial

Meet Gary, the guy who will show you the basics.

So far the tutorial has the absolute basics of the game in, there's more to do here I believe, but this works as a "this is how the game functions, and here's some important stuff" guide. Any suggestions towards it, especially additions, are welcome, but expect the tutorial to take no more than 5 minutes or so as is. It currently covers:

  • What mortis is, and what it means.

  • Card requirement and cost, with an example of how increasing your mortis allows you to play different cards.

  • Ending your turn.

  • How your opponents operate in terms of how they choose cards.

  • An example of an opponent's turn.

  • An overview of the active effects window.

  • An overview of the combat log, and how to view cards played by the boss, along with an example of what a card with a status effect may look like in terms of both visuals and tips from examining the boss card.

  • Lowering your mortis, and an example of a card that does so.

  • Discarding 1 card per turn in case of hand lock, if you want to make room in your hand for your next draws or if you have a card you never want to play, like a curse.

  • A suggestion about what to do next in the game, along with a small overview of the available game modes, as well as the primary game mode, the roguelike mode.

Hopefully this should help a bunch with any confusion!

Concise Card Text

Another issue was that card text was LONG, and being met with a paragraph over and over was probably pretty tiring pretty quickly.

Misc Changes:

Morgue from the discord pointed out a very obvious thing that I forgot to add - an Obol counter to Charon's fight. I've mended that, and he now has a swanky new counter beneath his portrait. Should help for clarity - thank you for the suggestion!

Also fixed a bug where Charon was using Kalfu's barks at certain intervals, which wasn't intended. Noticed that one in testing, so now Charon's back to his usual groany self instead of randomly having moments of verbose clarity.

With that, I'll wrap it up here - now that next fest is over normal content updates should resume here and there. Make sure to check back in!

Till next time!
