Hi!

It’s been two months since we shared our new project, Childwood! Here’s an update on the development of our demo.

Ergonomics

We received a lot of feedback regarding Childwood’s ergonomics and overall clarity. We’re currently working on improving the game’s affordance:

  • The red-eyed creatures have been removed; only darkness remains

  • An outline has been added to interactive objects

  • Clearer information about the children’s feeding system

Improvements to fire and child management

  • You will now start each run with only one child

  • Children’s deaths will no longer result in a game over; the goal is to keep the fire burning

  • We’re working on a feature that will allow you to create custom children

Art

  • Marilou is currently working on additional character designs for the children.

  • Children’s animations are being created using traditional animation techniques.

Narrative

Two narrative designers have joined the team as a duo to strengthen the narrative integration within the gameplay and answer some of the questions you may have.

Let us know in the comments if you’d like to learn more about Childwood’s lore!

On the administrative side, we’re working on applications for public funding so we can remain 100% independent throughout Childwood’s development. It’s challenging and time-consuming, but we’re in good hands and hopeful for a positive outcome. We’ll keep you updated over the coming months.

Have a great holiday!
