Hi everyone! This past month has been heavily focused on getting the first public demo out on itch.io. As a result, February involved a lot of balancing, bug fixes and a couple of new additions. Let’s dive into what changed.

Balancing

With the demo release, several systems were adjusted based on internal testing and overall pacing goals:

  • Decreased the duration of the extractor and plant press.

  • Halved the amount of fuel provided by the lantern fuel item.

  • Increased camp storage stack limits for extracts and brews to 99.

  • Updated required experience values for multiple skills (botany, brewing, cooking and packing).

  • Added bandage (burn) to support boxes in the default biome and bandage (poison) to the flooded biome.

  • Adjusted starting backpack slots based on difficulty.

Piranhas

A new threat has been added to the flooded biome: schools of piranhas.

If the player enters the water and gets too close, the school will swarm. While swarmed, the player takes continuous damage. However, their movement speed is increased. Once the player exits the water, the piranhas disengage and return to the nearest available location.

Bleed

With the addition of piranhas, a new damage type has been introduced: Bleed.

When swarmed by piranhas, the player receives bleed damage, which decreases health and strength over time. Any bandage can be applied to reduce the effect until it stops.

Additional

  • Numerous bug fixes.

  • Added snakes to the flooded biome.

  • Added a feedback button to pause menu.

  • Added barricade icons to the map.

  • Added multiple monitor information to graphics options.

  • Added notes and status tutorials.

  • Replaced the game paused icon with text over navigation for better clarity.

  • Updated coffee descriptions to include specific benefits.

Thank you to everyone following this journey. If you’d like to support the project, you can follow along on itch.io, Steam and X.
