Epiphany City changes
There are 3 things that make us stand out, compared to other studios.
#1. Our 3 core members were ex-esports pros
This is particularly weird when you think about this wholesome, story-driven puzzle game with no fast reactions or complex button inputs necessary, but hey, sometimes you just yearn for that feeling of adventure, that feeling of magic and discovery that you had when you first played an epic video game as a kid.
We were all ranked Top 10 in Southern California for Super Smash Bros Melee at some point in time. I personally hosted esports events, organized tournaments for some of the most high profile invitationals on Twitch, and have a YouTube channel dedicated to teaching players how to improve at the game. Those were fun times... but honestly, after all those years of stressful competition, I'm super glad I get to work on a more creative endeavor.
#2. We're diverse AF
This isn't necessarily unique to us only, but if you're familiar with the game dev demographic you know this isn't how things usually go.
As you can see, about 70% of the game dev community is a 35 year old white male. Got nothin' against 35 year old white males, I love 'em, tons of my friends are white males. Just sayin', our studio happens to have people who are Iranian, Thai, Puerto Rican, Singaporean, Korean, non-binary, and an even 50-50 split of women and men. And we all work remote, some even from Singapore. So it's just not your typical development studio.
But anyway, these graphs got me a bit skeptical tbh. It surveyed people from ages 18-67 but the second graph says there aren't even people younger than 25 in game dev, which would mean half of our studio doesn't even exist. So go figure.
#3. We give away 10% of our profits to charity
This is something that I personally have been doing for the past 8 years. Anyone who's played the beta version of our demo has read this in our "About the Team" section, but basically, our 3 core, degenerate members (all the esports pros) have received so much good fortune and support in life, that it would be irresponsible not to pay some of it forward.
Depending on how well Epiphany City does, we may actually give away more than 10%... but we'll see.
Okay that's all for now. You can always let me know what you think of these updates, or just talk to me about whatever you want honestly. Thanks for reading! - Dave
