Droning On changes
The old UI worked, but it wasn't winning any contests. It got the job done for early development, but it looked like it belonged in a prototype build, and if you were playing on a larger monitor... good luck.
This update is a full UI rework across every screen in the game: main menu, level selectors, code editor, HUD, customizations, unlockables—all of it.
What Changed
The old UI had a flat look with hard borders and a lot of raw white/grey. The new UI leans into a darker, more cohesive theme that fits the industrial warehouse vibe of the game while keeping things readable and clean. Panels have depth, icons have character, and everything feels more intentional.
Beyond aesthetics, the biggest functional improvement is resolution scaling. The old UI was built with fixed sizing, which meant it looked fine at 1080p and progressively worse at anything above that. The new UI scales properly across resolutions, so whether you're on a laptop or an ultrawide, everything stays usable.
Screen-By-Screen Highlights
Main Menu: Reorganized with icon-driven navigation and a cleaner layout. No more wall of plain text buttons. Steam post image
Level Selector (Bootcamp): Levels are now grouped by category with completion indicators and a progress tracker on the side, replacing the old thumbnail grid. Steam post image
Code Editor: Dark theme with proper syntax highlighting, a streamlined script sidebar, and a more readable console. Feels like an actual editor now. Steam post image
Customizations: Card-based layout with a live preview panel and scrap balance display. Browsing skins, hats, ears, and tails is much more intuitive. Steam post image
Unlocks & Syntax: Filterable by category (Functions, Syntax, Trinkets) with description panels, documentation links, and progress tracking. Locked items are clearly distinguished without dominating the screen. Steam post image
The goal was to modernize without losing the game's character. The UI should feel like it belongs there, not like it was bolted on as an afterthought or made by a toddler.
Thanks for reading, and as always, feedback is welcome. If you haven't already, drop a wishlist and come hang out in the Discord.
