changedA Forest, a Kingdom of its ownThe balance between the Wildwood and Earlwood Village is delicate. In ages past, the elders of Earlwood understood the forest’s ways, maintaining an uneasy accord. Now, that knowledge is fading—known only to a dwindling few, while the forest remembers far more than men do.
addedWhere Bonds and Paths BeginThroughout the first act, you will return to Earlwood often. After forays into the wilds, you’ll come back to share discoveries with familiar faces, craft new tools, and prepare for the road ahead. In this way, the village becomes both a sanctuary and a living thread through your journey—a place where relationships deepen, and where each return carries new meaning.

This is likely the first time you’ve heard from me directly. As we move toward release, I’ll be posting regular updates: glimpses of the world taking shape, the game loop, and the stories we hope you’ll soon step into.

For this first devlog, I want to introduce the first town region players will explore: Earlwood Village. A place of beauty and tragedy, and a fitting beginning for your journey through Dimraeth.

Between Kingdom and Forest: A Place of Outcasts

Earlwood is unlike many places in Mirkea. It stands on the border between the Human Kingdom of Aldoria and the vast Eternal Forest, home of the elves.

Three centuries ago, it began as a lone homestead. Over time it became something more—a refuge for those cast out of their own lands. Here you’ll find Minotaurs, Elves, Dwarves, and Humans, bound not by blood or crown, but by circumstance.

Earlwood is a town of outcasts, of those seeking a second life. That fragile kind of community carries its own quiet beauty.

Earlwood was one of the first regions we built during early development. It anchors the opening act of the game, a place where the first threads of the story are woven.

We wanted this first town to feel layered: warm and welcoming on the surface, but marked by deeper wounds beneath. Most of Mirkea remains divided along ancient lines. Earlwood stands apart. Here, for a time, those divisions have faded.

But such peace is never simple. And when players arrive, they’ll find the village already caught in a slow unraveling.

A Forest, a Kingdom of its own

The Wildwood that surrounds Earlwood is no ordinary forest. Though it lies at the border of the vast Eternal Forest, it is not ruled by Elves, nor claimed by the Kingdom of Aldoria.

Here, each stretch of forest is its own domain. The Wildwood is a fractured land of many small kingdoms, each ruled by a Forest King —ancient spirits of nature, be they Dryads, Treants, or stranger powers still. Though divided, they are bound by one law: the will of Ceres, the nature god whose laws shape all life beneath the canopy.

The balance between the Wildwood and Earlwood Village is delicate. In ages past, the elders of Earlwood understood the forest’s ways, maintaining an uneasy accord. Now, that knowledge is fading—known only to a dwindling few, while the forest remembers far more than men do.

Tragedy and Hope

Finding the right tone for Earlwood has been one of the more delicate parts of its design. It is a cozy village of outcasts. A place where players should feel welcome. Yet when they arrive, the village stands on the brink of crisis.

Fear has gripped the town. Most quarters are sealed. The guards allow no one through. But not all obey. The Guild Hall Quarter remains open. It serves both as a refuge for the displaced and the village’s last hope of defense.

Here, we want players to feel the tension. The weight of what has been lost. The hope that still holds.

In Dimraeth, we aim to build a world that invites you in with clarity and color, while holding true depth for those who choose to seek it.

Where Bonds and Paths Begin

Upon reaching Earlwood, the village and its inhabitants lie open before you. What awaits is a cast of characters, each with their own story to tell. NPC relationships are a core part of our design—in Dimraeth, you will forge friendships and pursue romance with those you meet, each bond unfolding through unique questlines and personal moments. We know that character relationships and romance are a vital part of the RPG experience, and we aim to deliver.

Throughout the first act, you will return to Earlwood often. After forays into the wilds, you’ll come back to share discoveries with familiar faces, craft new tools, and prepare for the road ahead. In this way, the village becomes both a sanctuary and a living thread through your journey—a place where relationships deepen, and where each return carries new meaning.

Each return will also mark a pause between the dangers faced beyond the village. The world outside Earlwood is not a gentle one, and what you encounter there will shape both your path and those you come to know.

Until Next Time…

I’ll leave you with this: a simple dusk in Earlwood. Smoke curling from chimneys. A small circle of children and squirrels gathered near old Befr, begging for one more story before nightfall.

These are the moments worth protecting. The ones that remind us why we stand.

We’d be glad to share more of these glimpses behind the curtain, especially if you’re drawn to the deeper layers of the world — the craft of NPC design, the rationale behind the game loop, the shaping of biomes, the hidden threads of monster ecology, and more. If there are corners of Dimraeth you’d like to hear more about, let us know.

For now, it’s back to the work of building. Thank you for reading. I look forward to the day we’ll meet in Mirkea.
