DIESELDOME: Oil & Blood changes
We're proud to introduce the Boons of Caesar update, our biggest update to DIESELDOME so far! This major update introduces several new key features to DIESELDOME and addresses the biggest problems we've had on our previous builds. Let's get right to the gory details!
The Event System
With the first iteration of the event system, domerunners will encounter many randomly selected events on each run. Events are short missions or situations that provide the player with a task and encourages them to play in different styles. They also bring many unique situations and challenges along with them.
But here's the fun part, when players succeed at accomplishing event tasks, they are rewarded with a treasure chest from Caesar's private collection.
Our first iteration of the event system introduces 6 unique events and 8 common quality rewards, but we plan to add many, many more events and reward types in the near future.
Power-Ups
With the introduction of power-ups, enemies now have a low chance of dropping unique, overpowered collectibles. While these collectibles only last for a short time, their effects can turn the tide of the Dome in an instant. Power-ups can also be found around the map, but beware; they have a very long cooldown period! This update introduces 3 power-ups, but be on the lookout for more soon!
Below you can see the effects of the Jupiter's Wrath power-up creating a mini-nuke explosion around the player and decimating every enemy nearby:
New Enemy Models, Textures & Particles
One of the most common issues players encountered was the lack of visibility of enemies. We have reworked nearly all enemy models and textures, adjusted their sizes, and also remade their particles to make them much easier to spot:
New HP System
With this update, we have reworked our HP system from the ground up and introduced collectible hp pickups scattered around the parkour routes of the map. Player characters now have 3-digit health points instead of single digits. This changes the whole flow of combat, giving each enemy a unique damage number instead of always damaging the player by 1.
The second part of the rework also has a massive effect on the flow of the game. When players are hurt, they now have to use the map parkour routes to gather HP pickups. Once a pickup is gathered, it cannot be gathered again for a period, encouraging players to move around different zones and parkour routes to survive. This mechanic rewards the smart use of our movement system and makes it much more rewarding.
Massive Performance Boost
We have been working hard to improve the overall performance of the game. We're happy to announce that this update increases the overall performance and FPS by a whopping 70%! This is all thanks to our completely overhauled projectile system and improved object pooling and occlusion culling systems. While we're constantly going to be working on making the game even more performant, this update should make the game much more enjoyable, especially when you've created that perfect broken build!
Future Updates & Beta Testing
While the Boons of Caesar update is massive, we're already working on many other big features. We will soon need your help and feedback to make sure these new features are released in the best way they can be. Because of this, next month we will be introducing a new beta branch to our demo. We'll soon be announcing more details about this so be on the lookout for news!
