Winter's Greetings!
Whether you're new here or have been around a while, welcome to a new demo for Diecast! This update brings some big changes to visuals with new OOMPH (that addictive game feel), new visual themes, new languages, new unlockable difficulties, new dice... well, there's just lots of "new" with this update! Let's find out more below. But first...
I'm excited to announce that Diecast is a part of Midwinter Spirits, hosted by Ivy Juice Games! Be sure to check out the many awesome games, demos, and sales going on! Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.
Visuals
OOMPH
I've taken time to add in new effects when scoring, and the effects get bigger the larger your score is for a single hand. There are also more wavy visuals all around to make things more spacey, wavy, you get the idea.
Themes
Before, I had button themes, but they didn't do a lot. Now, themes change the look of multiple elements while playing. Find a theme that fits your style or flair! LOTS more will be coming in the full release, so keep an eye out, or suggest a theme you want to see.
Localization Support
This update brings support for the following languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, and French.
Please note that this is just an initial pass, and these translations are still very much a work in progress. If you would like to help with improving the translations, there is a feedback form in-game you can fill out to let me know. Thank you!
Gameplay
Unlockable Difficulty Levels
This update introduces the first set of unlockable content, which includes two new difficulty levels. The full game will have 6(!) difficulty levels that add modifiers or additional challenges to each run. Take it easy at Pip 1, or go for something spicier with Pip 3! Each level unlocks upon completing a run on the previous difficulty.
If you have any ideas or suggestions for how to make the game even more difficult, please let me know ;)
New Dice
Welcome in from the cold two new dice: the Penny and the Icy Die.
Penny
The Penny is the first junk-class die. Junk-class dice are unique "dice" that can't be scored but have unique effects when "rolled" (or flipped, in this case).
When the Penny lands on "heads," it gives +1 mult to your next played hand. Tails does nothing. Sorry!
Icy Die
The Icy Die introduces a new keyword:"When Held."This keyword activates when you select the die into your hand and then roll your other dice.
When the Icy Die is held in hand, it loses 1 from its face value, with a minimum of 1. This can be helpful when you're just one value off from a number you want. Just select your Icy Die, and let it "melt" to that lower number you need.
Bug Fixes
The bulk of this update was rewriting the game to support different languages, but also many MANY MANY bugs were squashed. If you find any more, there's a form in-game you can fill out, and I'll work as quickly as I can to fix them.
Go check it out!
The new update is live below. Please leave a review, or reach out on the Discord with any ideas or suggestions you have! I hope you enjoy your time with Diecast :)
