Hi to all fellow melancholy lovers. First things first, here’s some fresh, life-affirming art ːcupheadː

This is a scene from the first chapter and it will be in the game at release. If you played the demo, you might guess where you can reach it ːcool_explorerː

Now to the important part. How is the project doing? We haven’t been sitting around. Right now more than half of the content is done.

— Art is the furthest along. Most of the backgrounds are already drawn and animated, though a lot still needs tuning inside the engine. At the same time we’re actively fixing bugs, adding sounds, and slowly polishing everything.

— The story is fully planned and written in draft form all the way to the end. We know the endings, the main character’s arc, all the branches, scene details, basically everything except a couple of mini games. Two out of five chapters are finalized, and the third one is currently being edited.

About our plans. First, even though Deep Pixel Melancholy is split into chapters, it will release all at once as a full 1.0 version. We don’t want to do Early Access. So you will be able to experience the full game in one go.

Second, the release is not too far away, even though we’re not ready to lock a date yet. Right now we’re aiming for the end of February because we truly believe Deep Pixel Melancholy will hit much harder in winter than at any other time. We’re really trying to make it in time.

That said, we made an important decision for ourselves. It is better to release a bit later and do it properly than to rush and fall through the ice of bugs and unfinished content. So we want to be honest. The wait might stretch by a couple more months, but not longer than that. We have a plan and we’re sticking to it.

Thank you to everyone who follows, waits, shares, and asks questions. And if you do have questions, drop them in the comments. We’ll answer.

Stay in touch. We’ll definitely talk again this year. And happy upcoming holidays everyone <3
