Another day another devlog, and this is an important one! We'll be talking everything Town, from who you'll be defending to what you'll be able to do there to create your game breaking builds.
In between each wave of enemies you'll have a choice of 5 locations to enter, each with their own function that can assist you with future nights. You'll be able to enter 2 different locations, meaning you'll need to choose wisely - especially since the buildings you choose will be upgraded!
So what are your options...?
The Shop
The Shop is exactly what you'd expect - your go to place to pickup additional cards for your and artifacts that grant permanent passive bonuses. As you upgrade the Shop you'll see higher rarity items and you can reroll the shop to get fully restock it with new stuff.
Card Packs can also be purchased. These contain 3 Cards that share a Tag or Gameplay Object (such as Fire Cards or Missile Cards). You can add any
The Tavern
The Tavern started as the location you could heal up after taking significant damage in a night but we found during prototyping that choosing to go to the Tavern over other locations that give lasting power could feel really rough.
For that reason the Tavern is not only a healing location, but eating a meal will provide a powerful single night buff that is perfect for turning the tides when you know you have a difficult wave coming up.
The Fountain
You might notice we haven't mentioned Card Removal yet. Due to how quickly you can cycle through your deck, it's particularly strong in Decked Out - so to help balance it against other options it's worthy of a location all to its own!
At this location you'll be able to toss a card of your choice into the fountain and select a reward from a few options. The power level of these rewards will increase both based on the card that you sacrifice and the upgrade level of the fountain itself.
The Blacksmith
Here you can upgrade your cards by reforging them with powerful gems. Gems also follow the rarity system evolving from staple buffs such as cost reductions and damage increases to game breaking buffs such as completely regenerating your Mana whenever you use a certain card.
Better yet, higher rarity cards can contain multiple gems... Be on the looking for pairs of gems that can turn the right card into a win condition all on its own.
The Town Hall
Finally, the Town Hall. This is the true Wild Card of our game, boasting completely random events that range from Mini-Games to making deals with a Demon.
We'll keep our cards close to our chest with this one as there's a lot that can happen here, but rest assured - if you're looking to spice up your run you'll want to pay the Town Hall a visit.
The Townsfolk
And, of course, no town would be complete without its own thriving population. Early in the run there will be a few brave souls that have chosen to stick around despite the enemies constantly knocking at the gates - but as you protect it you'll see people flood to the security behind your castle walls.
Next time we will be chatting about everything Meta Game we've implemented so far, and there will be a special announcement!
