Darkest Messia changes
The past month was a transition phase for us, moving from foundations to large-scale content creation. We addressed feedback from the Prologue (fixed key bugs and improved stability) and fully immersed ourselves in creating the open world.
Here is what we worked on this month:
Community Management: NPC System and Hub
Since more than 50 unique NPCs await you in the game world—whom you can find, invite to your settlement, and assign roles to—they required a deep management mechanic.
Created the NPC interaction system: Characters now respond correctly to your commands.
Central Hub: We started developing a special interface and location for settlement management. Here, you will be able to track the information and current status of each survivor.
Personal Stories: We are crafting storylines for every NPC so they aren't just "bots," but have their own personalities and secrets.
Building and Combat System
- Mechanics TestingWe refined the building system to account for weight and gravity. There were challenges, but we overcame them—internal tests start this week! New crafting elements and tools have been added.
- Progression and EquipmentWe expanded character talents. We also reworked weapon and armor procs (random effects) —they are now more distinct, important, and have a stronger impact on your combat style.
- Smooth MovementFixed an annoying bug with character movement. Right now, we are completely reworking animation transitions so that combat and movement feel responsive and smooth.
Game World: The First Location ($1500 \\times 1500$ m)
We have fully completed the geometry of the first location and are now finalizing the terrain generation. At release, a massive area measuring 1.5 by 1.5 kilometers awaits you, filled with dark secrets.
What you can explore in this area:
A regional Trading City and the grand Temple, which you saw from the inside in the prologue, but can now examine from the outside to appreciate its true scale.
17 unique villages and a fortified military base.
The Order of Hospitallers, who arrived from distant Asteria.
The colossal wall of a neighboring state.
God-forsaken forests and ancient ruins of past civilizations.
Of course, the storyline will also continue. The road of adventure (or survival) may well lead you into a mysterious dungeon, where the true past of this world is hidden.
New Threats and Atmosphere
- New Enemy — "The Cursed"Darkness breeds new monsters, and this opponent will definitely test your nerves.Steam post image
Atmosphere: New deep audio tracks have been composed, emphasizing the hopelessness and grandeur of a decaying world.
- InterfaceNew UI windows have been created for more convenient menu navigation.
What's Next?
At the moment, the team is moving forward very confidently. The plan for the current month is to fully finish the core mechanics of the game, after which we will officially move to the global polishing stage and the development of more detailed game systems.
Thank you for staying with us and supporting the development of Darkest Messia. The one connected to your past is already waiting...
See you next month!
