changed"I thought you (Se7enZ) were not going to do major updates."Well, that is true. As you all know (and probably can tell with the slight jank of this amazing space shooter), I am learning game development. This means that I want to move on to my next project so I can learn more things (like how to save a game and dealing with collision. Have you seen the lack of collision Se7enZ?!?)
fixed"I thought you (Se7enZ) were not going to do major updates."What inspired me to do this update is that I noticed a few friends (as well as a groovy review) mentioned the sheer difficulty of the game, and I wanted to address that! But, because I want to do so in a rewarding way, I addressed it differently! (More below).
added"I thought you (Se7enZ) were not going to do major updates."This is all to say that my original plans are still true. I do not see myself adding a lot of big content stuff to the game (aside from this update). This is due to how the code in the background is weird and I want to figure out other things.
addedDealing with DifficultySo, to get straight to the point, the difficulty is still the same. But don't worry, you now have choices on how to approach the problem! The next section WILL DETAIL THIS, so if you don't want to be spoiled, then skip it. To find your choices, update the game and click on "Customize".
addedShip CustomizationIn V1.1 The "Not an Update" Major Update, you can now choose from 4 different ship classes. These classes will fundamentally change how you approach the game. Since the game was balanced around the ship everyone loves (or dislikes its lack of movement) I assume the game will likely be silly, but honestly, I will have to see.
changedShip CustomizationArmored - This ship class gains +150 Maximum Shield, but loses -20 Max Speed.

Cosmolon V1.1 The "Not an Update" Major Update

Greetings!

Hello, fellow space captains and groovy fellows, it is I, Se7enZ, and I want to say thank you so much for the support for my first little game, Cosmolon. It was something, as most of you know, that took a bit of time, and I love to see people playing. I hope the "Not an Update" Update is to your liking, so let us get to it. I am excited, but let us get through some quick news first!

"I thought you (Se7enZ) were not going to do major updates."

Well, that is true. As you all know (and probably can tell with the slight jank of this amazing space shooter), I am learning game development. This means that I want to move on to my next project so I can learn more things (like how to save a game and dealing with collision. Have you seen the lack of collision Se7enZ?!?)

What inspired me to do this update is that I noticed a few friends (as well as a groovy review) mentioned the sheer difficulty of the game, and I wanted to address that! But, because I want to do so in a rewarding way, I addressed it differently! (More below).

This is all to say that my original plans are still true. I do not see myself adding a lot of big content stuff to the game (aside from this update). This is due to how the code in the background is weird and I want to figure out other things.

Dealing with Difficulty

So, to get straight to the point, the difficulty is still the same. But don't worry, you now have choices on how to approach the problem! The next section WILL DETAIL THIS, so if you don't want to be spoiled, then skip it. To find your choices, update the game and click on "Customize".

Ship Customization

In V1.1 The "Not an Update" Major Update, you can now choose from 4 different ship classes. These classes will fundamentally change how you approach the game. Since the game was balanced around the ship everyone loves (or dislikes its lack of movement) I assume the game will likely be silly, but honestly, I will have to see.

You can click on "Customize" from the Main Menu to change up your ship and then simply start the game to see how it goes.

The Classes all come with a few positives, as well as a few drawbacks so keep that in mind!

Classes Include:

  • Balanced - This ship class is the same as what everyone was used to and is the default option.

  • Armored - This ship class gains +150 Maximum Shield, but loses -20 Max Speed.

  • Powered - This ship class gains +4 DMG and +2 Piercing on ALL projectiles, but loses -70 Maximum Shield.

  • Agile - This ship class gains +60 Max Speed, +15 Acceleration, and +30 Rotation Speed. It loses -20 Maximum Shield and deals -1 DMG.

REMEMBER! You can still fix the deficits with the normal upgrades you receive later!

The choice you make will add cool stripes that change color!

Finally, those looking for the game to be slightly easier may find either the Armored or Powered option the best.

"Lore" of the Ship Customization

(Here is a lore explanation of the ship customization)

As a space captain of the mighty C.O.I.N. frigate, you make the call to divert power from the main cell battery to prioritize other offensive, defensive, or movement systems. By doing so, you have to lose some of the ship's balanced nature to achieve your goals and potentially secure survival.

Other minor changes

So here are some less cool but still useful changes. Some of these bugs, I am not sure if they are fixed, because I could not replicate them. I will indicate those, so let me know in the discord if they aren't fixed or if new issues arise.

  • Credits can now be skipped.

  • Clicking on "Extras" will now tell you how to unlock "Extras" if "Extras" is, in fact, truly and ultimately not unlocked at the time of clicking on said "Extras".

  • When you watch the story, it will now take you to the main menu automatically. This is so my friend doesn't keep clicking on the black screen to try and find easter eggs (funny thing is there were no easter eggs on that black screen, but let us not tell him that. That way he might feel like he missed on XD)

  • Moved "Resume" further up, so when you pause the game, it is easier to click it and not accidentally click a button you did not want. Just remember that clicking on "Main Menu" or "Retry" will still do that choice!

  • Now, the weirdest of bugs that I may need your help on! For some people with different screen resolutions, the "Credits" screen was weird. It ranged from glitched text to giant white blocks. I think I fixed it, but I'm honestly unsure, so let me know on the discord, ideally with pictures if you see any issues. Thanks again to those who have helped.

The Future

So that pretty much covers this update. I do not see any major updates, like this one, coming, but if there is a significant problem, I am around. The best place to reach me is on the discord with potential problems or if you want to just chat about learning game design!

If you want to see more of what I do in terms of future games, head to a particular video-watching site and look for Se7enZ Studio Games!

Best of luck Captains! And I hope you can make it to the end. There is the "Extras" waiting to be unlocked where you may find a more interesting outcome! Good luck!
