Cosminers changes
Attention, Cosminers.
We originally planned to send you to the planet Tau Ceti F in the first quarter of 2026, but we are making many changes and improvements to various aspects of the game. We are doing our best to ensure that Cosminers meets both your and our expectations in terms of quality. This extended the development process of creating Cosminers. It is difficult for us to provide an exact release date at this moment, for now we are planning to make closed and open playtests soon (probably Q2 2026) and to participate in one of the Steam Next Fest with a demo. We will keep you informed about our progress and roadmap.
If you happen to be in the Boston area, feel free to visit our booth at PAX EAST 2026, which will be held from 26 to 29 March, to see the current state of the game, try Cosminers by yourself and share your thoughts!
Thanks to your feedback at various events and expos, we have decided to introduce many changes in gameplay. Tower defence system which we want to describe closer in this update is one of the many things we have been working, to make Cosminers more enjoyable. Our improved base's defence systems will increase your chances of survival and successful completion of your contract.
Tower Defense System
The security system has been expanded for better gameplay - we have given you the ability to defend the base in two ways - you must choose which one will be most beneficial for your mission:
The first method is manual control by the player, which allows you to kill monsters more precisely by hitting their weak spots, which causes them to take more damage.
The second way is to give control to an AI module that will operate the turret itself, deciding which enemy is best to attack at any given moment, but with less precision when it comes to attacking weak points.
Tower's structures
Turrets are highly advanced structures designed for various tasks and for eliminating different types of enemies, which is why they differ from each other in many ways. Below is a list of their differences:
Weapon type - The turrets will have various types of projectiles, including kinetic, energy, electric, and fire. These projectiles will differ from each other in many characteristics and their use on the battlefield.
Range - The range of projectiles fired by turrets also varies. Some rounds can travel long distances to reach a monster, while electric rounds must operate at close range to maintain their powerful effect.
Energy requirements - Each turret will consume different amounts of energy depending on the technology used - simple structures will consume minimal amounts of energy, while turrets that attack enemies with energy can place a heavy load on your energy reserves. Each turret is an additional point that draws energy from your base, so you will either need to create a secure energy reserve in your base or be forced to have a limited number of security systems. We will leave the planning up to you.
Resources used - Basic turrets will require raw materials such as Tritanium, which you will use to create ammunition, while more advanced structures will require Crystalite in addition to electricity to generate powerful amounts of energy. Therefore, gather as much as you can and create ammunition, because the monsters on this planet like to surprise you.
Attack speed - There's not much to explain here. Some turrets can fire simple projectiles at high speeds, but those that use energy will need a moment to recharge after firing before they can fire again.
Damage dealt - Basic turrets that use regular ammunition deal little damage to monsters on Tau Ceti F, but in the case of the smallest units, this will be enough to protect you. Turrets that use resources from player's storage deal significant damage and are much efficient in killing larger units.
Unlock level
The corporation has decided not to give you access to all the blueprints at the very beginning of your career, so you will unlock the more advanced designs as you progress through the missions.
Upgrades
Each turret can be upgraded to higher levels, which will significantly improve its basic stats. Unlocking additional plans in the development tree will allow you to customize turrets to suit your needs, e.g. add additional barrels so that the turret can deal more damage, or change the resources used and the effect applied to monsters.
Maintenance
Like any mechanical device, turrets wear out over time and will require maintenance. Keep in mind that placing a turret is only the beginning of its life and its proper operation will consume additional resources and player's attention to ensure its proper functioning.
In summary each turret has its pros and cons, but placing them correctly will allow you to create the perfect defence system. However, you will be responsible for this during your stay on the planet.
What turrets would you like to see in Cosminers, or what else would you improve? Be sure to let us know in the comments!
Thank you for your support and all the messages we received from you. Your commitment is what drives us to continue working on Cosminers!
