Hello Colonists!

Today is a day we’ve been dreaming of since we first typed the first lines of code for Colonize. We are beyond excited (and a little bit nervous!) to announce that Colonize 1.0 is officially here.

This journey has been an incredible learning experience for us. As an indie team of only two people, building our very first PC game has been a mountain of a challenge, but seeing you all play, provide feedback, and build your settlements has made every late night worth it.

What’s New in 1.0?

Over the last year, we haven't just been "polishing"—we’ve been under the hood, updating the engine of the game to ensure it’s the best version possible.

  • 100+ Bug Fixes: We’ve scoured every corner of the game to squash over 100 bugs reported by the community and found during our internal testing.

  • Engine & PerformanceWe updated the entire Unity project twice to take advantage of the latest stability and performance improvements.
  • Asset Optimization: We’ve meticulously optimized textures, environmental assets, and our citizen models to ensure smoother framerates, even as your colonies grow.

  • New AI Navigation: Your citizens are now smarter and more efficient, with a completely revamped navigation system that handles complex colony layouts much better.

A Heart-to-Heart on Development

We want to be honest with you: as a team of two, we’ve had to make some tough calls. While we’ve listened to every suggestion and wish list item, we haven't been able to implement everything the community asked for.

However, we believe Colonize has reached a state where it is a complete, playable, and—most importantly—an enjoyable experience. We’ve poured our hearts into fixing everything we possibly could to ensure the game is a "blast" for new and returning players alike.

What’s Next?

Every story has a final chapter, and for Colonize, this 1.0 release is that chapter. By bringing this project to a stable and finished state, it allows us to finally shift our focus and creative energy toward our next big project. We’ve learned so much on this first game, and we can’t wait to apply those lessons to something even more ambitious.
