Anomalous Weather
A feature I've long wanted to add is finally here. Anomalous weather events are sort of our answer to portal storms. They're events that happen occasionally and cause some unusual change to the world while they're here. The goal is to make these diverse and limited in scope, so that unlike the old portal storms, they're not hitting you with every single thing at the same time, and stand out as distinct and hopefully interesting events.
This update adds the first of these, nuclear fallout. There was a global nuclear war ten days ago and nobody's done any cleanup or damage control, where's the fallout?
Fallout happens randomly, with a minimum recurrence of just a few days to a maximum of 100 days. That means it isn't something you should see very often, but you never know.
You will get a popup warning if you are outside. Fallout has its own weather animation and a red weather indicator on the sidebar.
During a fallout event, characters who are outdoors will periodically be hit with an irradiating effect and irritation from smoke. These effects are resisted with environmental protection.
Resisting the irritation requires 3 environmental protection on the eyes and face.
Resisting the radiation requires 6 environmental protection on the head, torso, and face.
These effects only apply to characters who are outdoors. Staying inside a vehicle or building will protect you entirely.
Fallout can last between 4 and 48 hours.
At present, fallout does not affect monsters, animals, water, or plants. Your farm is safe. Once the fallout ends, there is no longer any lingering radiation to worry about.
The radiation during a fallout event is not very strong. Unless you stand in it unprotected for hours, you're not likely to get a high dose of radiation.
You do not need RADPROOF items to be safe from fallout.
Updated and reworked how fields and other environmental effects (mostly from gases) are applied:
Partial protection now partially protects. This was always intended, but due to code limitations didn't actually work in most cases. This means wearing a bandana over your face (Environmental protection 3) may reduce the impact of smoke or hazy clouds, or sometimes even protect entirely from brief exposure. It is always better to have some kind of protection than none.
Poison effects from hazy clouds and triffid pollen now apply poison to the torso instead of the head. They still require face protection to resist, as you're breathing the gas into your lungs.
Environmental protection now takes the single highest-value item per body part, rather than summing up all worn items on that part.
Smoke and gas inhalation are now a bit more harmful to your lifestyle score.
Added environmental protection to most hats, helmets, hoods, and cloaks.
Added environmental protection to all survivor gear.
Many items still do not provide appropriate environmental protection. Getting that updated will be an ongoing project.
Other Fixes
Fixed an issue where puddles weren't properly generating with water in them.
Stamped out a couple minor error messages.
