Demo Update

Today we will be updating our demo to better fit the current state of the game. While it does not include all the we are working on we wanted to give you all a taste of what's coming by opening up the city and including a little bit of Act 1 in it. We have also fixed a ton of bugs and issues and improved on the combat.

We hope you enjoy the update, it has taken us a while to get here due to a technical rework but from here on out we we'll be able to advance more rapidly with development.

Below are the patch notes of this update.

PATCH 0.2

MAIN

Post-Prologue Content

With this update we are opening up the city and giving you a taste of the story beyond the prologue. Once the prologue is done (i.e returning the shipment to Bilby and going to the White Rose), Bruce will be thrown into the open world allowing you to explore to your heart's content. The content in Act 1 is sparse, as it is still under development, but we included two quests for you to complete to know more about the different players in the city, and learn more about what's coming.

Combat Update

While the combat structure remains the same, a lot of effort went into making it more reliable, intuitive, and iterative. The base tech has been upgraded and it will allow us to add more content to the combat from here on out.

Arcade Mode

For those wishing to fight more than talk we are opening the Arcade Mode to play with. It is very early in its implementation, and there is no other goal than fighting, but we hope it gives you a bit of the feelings I got while playing Final Fight on the arcade in my youth.

New Puzzles/minigames

We are adding the current versions of some of our puzzles, minigames, and tasks you will come across in Button Man. These will be used later on in the game for different quests but they are available to test in the new update.

  • Lockpicking - Testing the lockpicking at the locksmith.

  • Fishing - Find the fisherman by the docks.

  • Hand cranking engine car - Help an old man with his car.

Bruce's Health

Before there was no way of knowing how Bruce was feeling after a fight, now he will not hide it anymore. As Bruce gets hit his portrait will change to reflect how much health he has left. Be mindful of his face when you face an enemy!

Bugs and Fixes

  • Fixed the holes that will make you fall off the world

  • Fixed dialogue logic that would result in soft locks

  • fixed companion stuttering

  • fixed combat animations

  • Fixed controller buttons not showing

  • Fixed weird camera behaviour

Known Issues

  • Companion walk speeds and behaviour can be erratic, don't be surprised to see them clipping or walking through buildings at time. It is being fixed but not for this update.

  • Combat dashes can happen spontaneously.

  • Running is a bit too sensitive and is being tuned.

  • Some barks that trigger when the camera is far away are unreadable.

We'll appreciate any feedback and note about the game. On discord you'll be able to send bug reports directly to us!

Future Plans

Due to the nature of indie development we are weighing many options regarding release. As of now we are uncertain of our ability to finish the game this year and deliver on all that is promised. For that reason we are considering an early-access model, to allow gameplay of the first two polished acts, while we work on the remainder of the game following your input and feedback. That way we can work together to make this game as good as it can be.

This is still in discussion and is not final, but the possibility is there and we wanted to share it with you and hear your thoughts.

For the time being please enjoy the demo and hop on to our discord to talk directly to the team :)
