Bitter Harvest changes
Hi everyone,
Bitter Harvest 1.2 is now available.
This update focuses heavily on reducing repetition, improving gameplay variety, expanding village storytelling, and making daily life in the village feel more dynamic and reactive.
Here is everything new in Version 1.2:
Fishing Competitions with Chadwick
In new games, you can now compete against Chadwick in recurring fishing competitions on Days 7, 14, 21, and 28 before 6PM in the forest.
This is the beginning of expanding Chadwick into a true rival character with recurring gameplay events and competition throughout the story.
Garbage Collection Now Reveals More About Villagers
Trash cans now contain discoveries tied to the personal lives of villagers rather than only generic trash items.
You may now uncover:
Personal letters
Receipts
Gossip
Clues
Suspicious items
Details about relationships and village secrets
This is intended to make garbage collection feel more connected to the narrative and social systems of the game.
NPC Dialogue Improvements
NPC dialogue now rotates through available dialogue rather than selecting lines randomly.
This should greatly reduce repeated conversations and make villagers feel more varied over time.
Passing Out Now Has Consequences
Passing out now causes the player to wake up later in the day with reduced stamina.
Multi-Item Crafting and Cooking
You can now craft or cook multiple items while only completing a single mini-game instead of repeating the mini-game for every item individually.
This should make crafting and cooking significantly faster and smoother.
Improved Hold Steady Crafting Mini-Game
The Hold Steady mini-game has been made more forgiving and easier to succeed at.
Dynamic Music Throughout the Day
Three new background music tracks have been added.
Music will now also change once during the day rather than a single track looping constantly.
New Playable Character Sprites
Three additional playable character sprites have been added.
Flash Effects Disabled by Default
Flash effects are now disabled by default for accessibility and comfort reasons.
They can still be re-enabled in the Options menu at any time.
Cooking Recipe Book Fix
Increased the height of the Cooking Recipe Book window to fix some ingredients not appearing correctly.
Thorn Relationship Quest Adjustment
In new games, Thorn’s relationship quest now requires 6 hearts instead of 4.
This change accounts for the new gifting system added in Version 1.1, which allows relationships to increase more quickly.
What’s Coming Next
I’m already working on additional updates based directly on player feedback, including:
More Character Depth
Expanded dialogue and interactions that delve deeper into the private lives of villagers, reveal more about their scandals, and add greater emotional depth to how you choose to react to them.
Ripple Effects
The village will begin reacting more dynamically to how you handle scandals, relationships, and moral choices throughout the story.
Mini-Game Improvements
All mini-game UI will be updated to better match the rest of the game’s interface.
I’m also adding music specifically designed for mini-games to help them feel more distinct and immersive.
Full Roadmap Coming Soon
A full roadmap covering planned future updates and gameplay additions is coming soon.
Thank you again to everyone who has been sharing feedback, bug reports, ideas, and reviews since launch. A huge amount of player feedback directly shaped both 1.1 and 1.2, and I’m continuing to actively improve the game.
If you’ve been enjoying Bitter Harvest, leaving a Steam review really helps the game continue to grow and reach more players.
