Bingo Betty changes
Bingo Betty 1.0.0 + Demo 7.0 Patch notes
And now the curtain will rise on the grand story of it all. Who is Bingo Betty? Why is Bingo Betty? Where is Bingo Betty? All will be answered over the course of your time playing the game as you engage with the newest mechanic, the dialogue system! Play through the same crazy game you know and love, but with a new added layer of collectible, dialogue hunting! There are over 900 conversations in this update, and a run only ever surfaces a handful of them, so the parlor is a different place every time you sit down. Only the most dedicated of Bingo players will be able to get their hands on that elusive 100% dialogue achievement so be diligent! I won't lie, I'm not the most well-versed guy when it comes to writing dialogue in particular, but tried my hardest to write a story that resonates with me and that I hope resonates with all of you! There are a lot of little stories and a lot of big mysteries, so everyone can have something to enjoy! (hopefully!)
Chatty Cathies and Talkative Toms
Every playable character now has their own run of story beats that unfold as your Fever rises. What's in store for the retirement crew? Take them to the finish and find out!
A single run only surfaces a few of those beats, and which ones you get depends on how deep you push. Two runs with the same senior are not the same story.
The other side of the table talks too. Have fun getting to know each character and how they are all their own forms of obnoxious and lovable at the same time!
Every pair of characters in the game meet somewhere, so root for your favorites to interact and you just may find it!
Many dialogues also have their own backgrounds and visuals, to give you a brief break from the action.
Don't Care, didnt ask? Skip it! Dialogue storybooks will only be shown to you once if unseen, and will always be re-viewable later! (more info down below!)
New Music Tracks
To accompany some of the dialogue scenes, a few new music tracks have been added to the game! I went a little simple for these tracks, because I wanted to pay homage to some of the games that inspired me to make games in the first place!
There are 8 new songs to listen to, with some being different renditions of existing motifs, but for the most part are new compositions!
A facelift (literally) and emotion!
All playable characters have been given updated artwork for their portraits, and have also received 5 new emotional variants that are used throughout the game.
Your character will now react to your gameplay by smiling, and becoming excited for when you hit those big chains!
Fever stars now count your first win as well, so the row reflects the whole climb instead of starting at Fever 1.
There is also a super secret unlockable cosmetic for single player that is universal for all characters once unlocked! I wonder who will be the first to find it?
Storybook Library
Did you miss a joke that you want to read again? did you miss an interaction because of a hasty click? Fret not! For all dialogues once viewed can be re-viewed from the storybook library tab in the collection
Conversations you haven't seen are listed as locked rows with a hint about how to reach them, so you can tell what's left without being told what it is.
Scenes that carry their own music track are marked with a small note icon, so you can find the ones worth having the volume up for.
Four new achievements for seeing 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of the conversations in the game. They're measured against the whole collection, and they count what you've already seen, so an existing save gets credit for it.
The Tutorial Is a Practice Game Now
The tutorial run is a throwaway. It doesn't save, it doesn't count toward your stats, and it can't earn achievements, so you can poke at it without it becoming your Betty file.
No story beats fire during it either. One wall of text at a time.
It ends back at the title screen instead of dropping you into the shop halfway through a run you didn't choose to start.
It also no longer grabs you on the way into a run. You may now actually chose whether or not you want to view the tutorial!
Bugfixes / Polish / Small Changes
Fixed a freeze where a boss could hang partway through their turn and lock you out of the game for good. The turn recovers itself now instead of sitting there.
Fixed splash blotters paying into the chain pot twice. They were worth double what the pot said they were, which is exactly the kind of quiet inflation the pot rework was supposed to end. Splash values are honest now.
Fixed the Bingo Boomerang doing absolutely nothing. It was supposed to carry balls from completed Sets onto your next card, and the game was never marking which balls were in a Set, so it had nothing to carry. It works now.
Fixed a losing run counting its final chain twice, so the game-over screen and the score counter disagreed about how you actually did.
Fixed thirteen sound effects that were supposed to play, including the blackout impact and several ball and menu sounds.
Closing Words + A thank you
This update stayed quiet on purpose. I wanted the first you heard of the talking update to be the hall talking to you. Now that it's out: more hall, more mouths, and more reasons to gamble away that social security. If a scene lands for you, I want to see the screenshot. And as always, if you hit a softlock or something looks broken, send me as much detail as you can.
Also, i just want to take a moment to seriously say, thank you everyone who has been wishlisting, playing the demo, listening to me rant about mechanics and bugfixes, etc. Without each and every one of you i could never have made it this far. Seriously, this game isn't for me. Its for all of you! All I have ever wanted was to make games that people love, so even if I provided you with 10 seconds of enjoyment, I consider that a job well done!
This certainly won't be the end for Bingo Betty, As I have quite a few plans. First I'm going to keep a big glowing electric eye on any bugs, issues, awkward text moments, and anything else that gives people grief so I can fix it! There's bound to be bugs-o-plenty with this new system addition (among other things). I can only test for so many situations from my end, so it really helps to have people telling me what I missed! Once I feel like 1.0.x is stable enough, Be on the lookout for a loose roadmap of some of the content updates that I plan to support the game with post-launch! I Have a small post going out on launch day as well to cover some of the future items I have ideas for, but for now just have fun with what's in store for you right now!
Until then, get to hunting those storybooks and make your grandma proud!
