Today marks a turning point in the development of Avant-Garde: Napoleonic Battles. For the first time since the prototyping phase, some members of the community have the opportunity to test the Early-Alpha version of the game.

This playtest is private; only members of the Old Guard have access to this version. The game will be available to the public when the demo is released on Steam in a few weeks.

More details about the Old Guard below.

Prototype VS Early-Alpha

This first playable version of the Early-Alpha demo allows me to test the recently implemented improvements and new features.

Improvements:

  • Most of the textures have been redone to better represent the Rivoli terrain in winter, as the battle took place in January

  • Some units, such as the sappers, have had their textures updated to be more realistic. The same applies to the Austrian camp

  • Some units have had their animations changed, notably the musket reloading animation and the sapper construction animation

  • Villages and bridges have been revamped

  • The minimap has been updated to better represent the battlefield

New features:

  • The tutorial is much more comprehensive and follows a predefined scenario.

  • Capturing villages displays a flag and boosts troop morale.

Of course, this is just the beginning of a long development process toward the Alpha version of the game, which will essentially be the Demo.

What is the Old Guard?

Referring to Napoleon's famous elite unit, the Old Guard brings together community members who want to help me make Vanguard the biggest success possible.

The Duties

Being part of the community's Old Guard involves, among other things:

  • Wishlisting Avant-Garde: Napoleonic Battles on Steam

  • Providing constructive feedback during the beta and testing phases

  • Helping me spread the word about the game by talking about it with others

The Benefits

In return, you'll receive exclusive benefits:

  • Direct communication channel with the rest of the Old Guard and the developer

  • Your name (and/or username) in the "Old Guard" section of the game's credits

A huge thank you to everyone who is already part of this elite unit; your presence is a great source of motivation!
