At its core, Alter Evo is a save the princess story with a dark twist.
Brunilda is wanted dead because of a video game that she made.
What's her game within the game?
It's called Solitaria, a disturbing art house project that went viral. But the attention it brought was the wrong kind. As the daughter of a wealthy, corrupt patriarch, Brunilda becomes a sitting duck - first for public ridicule and doxxing, then for something far darker.
You might be wondering - what’s so bad about this Solitaria game? How could it impact Brunilda's life in such a dramatic way?
This leads us to one of Alter Evo's unique mechanics - secret puzzles and secret levels. Players with a keen eye for mystery and conspiracy will be able to notice a puzzle that is introduced in the very beginning of the game but cannot be solved until right before the end. This puzzle is very difficult to identify and solve because it has many steps. Those who solve it will be able to play a censored version of Solitaria, and get a peak behind the veil of Brunilda's unrelentingly dark artistic vision.
Mechanically, the rest of the game is quite similar to Deadly Premonition and has also been compared to the original Alan Wake. The focus of the game is the narrative, atmosphere, and emotional journey, but the game play and mechanics were built along side these artistic elements rather than after them. Our process of determining story was largely based around what kind of levels, characters, and mechanics we could create with a modest budget.
Our launch trailer premieres on launch day, May 6th. Check it out here:
