Hi, Gamers!

RolldBox Games development team Today with Ferran, one of our Co-Founders, as well as the Game Designer and Creative Director of the studio at RolldBox Games 👋

We are going all out with Alex & Arty! We've done some additional playtesting for the final tweaks. Are you excited to play it? We can't wait for it to finally see the light of day either, so you can enjoy it to the fullest.

In the meantime, we’d like to share a few more details about its creation.

Inside the Development Process

In our last devlog, we talked a bit about how important it is for us that the world of Alex & Arty conveys the dynamism and life we have envisioned, and the need to properly balance the amount of AI for interacting with the various creatures and characters.

Talking with the team, our developer shared that what he enjoyed doing most was setting everything up to properly fine-tune the different behaviors and states of the Dilimals, the creatures of Gladness. And not just that, but also developing the skills and quirks of each one of them.

You will discover how Wolfeyn, Lizynard, Dragonoyd, Magmalyn, and Turtlelyn have very different behaviors, as well as very different sizes. You'll also see how Arty will be able to transform and what that entails, and how you, as Alex, will be able to ride these creatures.

At the same time, one of the biggest challenges has been implementing the bosses and their phases, as well as correctly generating and updating the navigation mesh so that the creatures move properly throughout the different stages of the game.

That said, we absolutely love playing it!

Sneak Peek of Upcoming Content

When we first started imagining Gladness, thinking about the different spaces and maps we wanted to create, we worked with the art team on many concepts, particularly regarding the color palette. We wanted every map and space to be easily recognizable, and for the 'restored' version to be an absolute joy to explore and experience.

So, deciding on the final color palette took some time, testing, and fine-tuning. Because it's not just about the palette; it's the lighting, it's how everything comes together. You know we love using vibrant colors in the games we make, so telling the story of the transition from polluted to transformed through color has been an amazing adventure.

More to share

The Dilimals are the creatures of Gladness, and coming up with that name took us quite some time. To us, it means 'Animals of the Light, very different from one another,' each with their own personality that we want you to discover in the game. Which Dilimal is your favorite?

We’d love to hear your top picks!

See you in the next Devlog with more and better!

See you in Gladness!
