We've been a bit tied up with our participation in the February Steam Next Fest, but now we're back to keep sharing details and behind-the-scenes quirks from the development of Alex & Arty!
The journey continues! 🚀
Inside the Development Process
In our last devlog, we talked about the Ionizer—the technological device that allows Alex to deal with the Crud and the pollution.
Want to learn a bit more about the tech behind it? We absolutely love dreaming up advanced technology and coming up with ways to develop it in-game! 🙂
Dr. Dreyfus gives Alex a special bracelet designed to protect her from the pollution. However, when she puts it on and tries to use it, the material somehow overheats or gets 'stressed,' and it breaks. So Alex, being a huge tech enthusiast, sets out to find a series of components she believes will fix the bracelet. She gets straight to work and successfully repairs it, creating what we now call the Ionizer.
From that moment on, while playing as Alex, you'll be able to instantly fire the ion beams that neutralize the Crud.
The real twist comes when you realize there are different types of pollution, and not all of them react the same way to that initial ion beam.
How do you upgrade the Ionizer? How do you use it effectively? You'll have to discover and experiment with this technology yourself, figuring out how to evolve it by re-using the different items you find along the way.
As you progress, you'll uncover a ton of combinations and variations that will help Alex push forward in her mission to neutralize the pollution. Can you clear it all? You'll have to play to see what can be cleansed, what can't, and exactly how to do it.
