Alex & Arty changes
Hi, Gamers!
RolldBox Games development team Today with Ferran, one of our Co-Founders, as well as the Game Designer and Creative Director of the studio at RolldBox Games 👋
We are still hard at work polishing Alex & Arty to bring you an amazing gaming experience, so you can fully immerse yourself in the adventure and discover everything we've prepared for you, at your own pace.
It’s with this passion that we wanted to share a little bit more today about how we created it. We hope you enjoyed this look behind the scenes, and if you haven't already, we'd love it if you could please consider adding the game to your Wishlist! 💚
Inside the Development Process
In our last devlog, we talked a bit about visual effects (VFX), and how they help us convey the adventure and the exact moment we are experiencing in the game.
Do you know how many VFX we’ve created for Alex & Arty? Over 300!! To us, that feels like a massive amount!
There are many different types, but if we had to break them down into categories, it would look something like this:
Environment: Particles and systems that breathe extra life into the world.
Player Feedback: Visual cues for the different tools you use, like the hover.
Player Abilities: Effects for your main skills, like the Ionizer.
Pollution & Creatures: Effects for the toxic Crud and our unique wildlife, the Dilimals!
Lighting: Dynamic light systems that go beyond just the Ionizer beams.
Here is a GIF so you can check some of them out in isolation. Can you guess where in the game we use it? Let us know in the comments!
Sneak Peek of Upcoming Content
While creating Alex & Arty—this very special duo—we thought it would be incredibly interesting to let Arty's magic shine in a unique way. Arty holds a lot of power and is a truly exceptional being within this universe. We felt that the best way to express that power was by giving Arty the ability to transform into the ancient creatures that inhabit Gladness.
That’s how we came up with an “Artyfied” version of these ancient creatures, allowing Alex to connect with them on a much deeper level.
More to share
One of the key pieces to showcase and explain Alex & Arty is our trailer.
We encourage you to watch it closely, and above all, pay attention to the accompanying music. It was composed specifically for this trailer by Oscar Araujo, a fantastic composer who has been incredibly generous with our studio by lending his talent to an indie project.
What did you think of the music?
See you in the next Devlog with more and better!
Don’t forget to join our Discord server. Let us know what you’d like us to talk about next from there!
See you in Gladness!
