Why doesn’t amber affect monks?
I’ve collected several explanations from various sources. No idea which one is more correct.
I know one thing: monks can interact without problems with most allotropes of amber (I recently accompanied a scientist and picked up a few words), while an average human or any living creature just touches that orange filth — and immediately becomes a disgusting creature.
So:
Monks eat amber in small doses to get used to it. If it was that simple, everyone could be forced to get used to it.
There is some kind of antidote in their blood. A vaccine against amber? But then why not give it to everyone?
The monks are protected by Akatori. Most likely. But then again, he hasn’t appeared in person for about 20 years…
Monks have a special heredity, like aristocratic dogs and cats… and those recently bred pigs… very tasty ones!
Master Wei implants Akatori’s feathers into the monks, and divine power blocks the influence of amber.
There are little machines in the monks’ blood that neutralise amber.
It’s a matter of special amulets that monks wear — they create a special field around them that affects amber in a special way.
Monks live in symbiosis with unusual microorganisms capable of devouring amber.
Monks train their mind and body, and can switch off the effect of amber.
These are the options. Maybe I’ll add more later.
