*#$&ing Windows 10... And Probably 11

Update: Fixed it finally this evening, Win 10 calls up the config file differently than Win 7, and via Steam it has to be set up ON Steam, not ON or in or part of the actual boot up files/called from inside the game.

changedUpdate: Fixed it finally this evening, Win 10 calls up the config file differently than Win 7, and via Steam it has to be set up ON Steam, not ON or in or part of the actual boot up files/called from inside the game. So now Windows 10 and probably 11 users will start up with the actual proper default graphics settings and custom controls, which allow flight and 3rd person view.
changedToday I got my hands on a very low end Windows 10 machine to test my games on etc to ensure max compatibility. Upon firing up the Art Gallery, it quickly became apparent Windows 10 users are NOT getting the correct default settings and key bindings. Windows 10, and probably 11; are some how over riding the games settings and creating a GZDOOM folder in Documents/My Games/GZDOOM with the most terrible default settings possible and no custom keybindings.
changedFor now, if you are running Windows 10, or 11, look in your Fool's Art Gallery folder, copy GZDOOM_Portable.ini to your Documents/My Games/GZDOOM; and rename it to simply GZDOOM. This will set you up with the proper default bare minimum graphic settings, for how the game should look; and also the proper key bindings allowing you to fly and use the 3rd person camera for whatever reason that you might want to do that.
changedThis all comes on top of an actual massive update that won't actually change anything from your point of view other than some frame rate hitches on lower end machines, with textures being insanely optimized; and frees up video RAM for future expansions of content.
addedI've been in contact with the GZDOOM engine folks, and they told me that flushing the video RAM between levels is not possible, at the moment; but adding the functionality is on their To Do List. So until they To Do List that, I had to find a solution that works now. I am looking at optimizing them further, but for the time being what's been done is working really well.
fixedOnce this Windows 10 and possibly 11 nightmare is fixed, I am going to get the demo launched and proceed onward with whatever the future holds.

======================================================

Today I got my hands on a very low end Windows 10 machine to test my games on etc to ensure max compatibility.

I spent all day trying different fixes, and for some reason none of them are working other than a janky shortcut method, which I am not sure will work once uploaded to Steam, since everyone has different installation paths etc. I think I found a solution, which I am going to try tomorrow.

For now, if you are running Windows 10, or 11, look in your Fool's Art Gallery folder, copy GZDOOM_Portable.ini to your Documents/My Games/GZDOOM; and rename it to simply GZDOOM. This will set you up with the proper default bare minimum graphic settings, for how the game should look; and also the proper key bindings allowing you to fly and use the 3rd person camera for whatever reason that you might want to do that.

My hugest apologies to Windows 10 and 11 users, first for having to use those OS's, and second for all this BS. On my Windows 7 machine the .ini file works fine. So I had no idea it was even an issue. But alas, Windows 10 (And probably 11); my old nemesis; strikes once again. Never to let me rest. Always pursuing me. Always reminding me of Windows 7 and that it was a functional OS, some how.

This all comes on top of an actual massive update that won't actually change anything from your point of view other than some frame rate hitches on lower end machines, with textures being insanely optimized; and frees up video RAM for future expansions of content.

Once this Windows 10 and possibly 11 nightmare is fixed, I am going to get the demo launched and proceed onward with whatever the future holds.

Thank you for your support everyone that has played around in my Gallery so far, and for your patience with getting the final kinks and bugs sorted out.
