Debczak is a 2D open-world survival/adventure game where you write books to explore unique, procedurally-generated dimensions. It has a heavy focus on survival, but also features a creative mode where the player cannot die and has access to all blocks/items in-game. Current features include building, crafting, combat, player customization, and a modular spell-crafting system.

When Worldsmith is ready for an initial player-base as is available for purchase on Steam, it will be in Beta. When the game is polished and includes all planned features, it will finally be "released" and no longer an early access title.

Worldsmith by Charles A. Debczak is now on Steam

Worldsmith by Charles A.

On face value, this game may appear as what one may describe as a "2D Minecraft" but there is much more to be excited about. The entire premise of this game is that the player is able to create books that take them to procedurally-generated dimensions with each containing unique, procedurally-generated mobs. These dimensions also may have traits, such as being so hot where every creature exposed to the sky ignites in flames or, even worse, is actively being eaten away by what previous explorers have deemed as "disintegration." These dimensions also sometimes have sprawling randomly-generated structures for the player to explore.

There is a somewhat-linear progression to the game in terms of collecting resources and progressing to different levels of equipment, tools, and weapons, but Worldsmith is entirely Sandbox and open-world. In this game, the adventure is whatever the player wants it to be! The world expands infinitely in both directions. The dimensions are also open-world in this regard.

Worldsmith is a project that I began work on in late 2021 for fun. Due to the rigorous nature of my real-life job, I took an extended break from approximately March 2022 until November 2023. I have since continued working on features and look forward to the day it is ready for a full-release.

Development Timeline

There is no concrete development timeline for this project. I hope to have it available on the Steam Store for purchase no later than October 2025. That being said, it may be available sooner depending on how the development progresses.

Currently, the game is in a state I consider Pre-Alpha. When Worldsmith is ready for testers, influencers, curators, and friends of the project, it will be in Alpha. When Worldsmith is ready for an initial player-base as is available for purchase on Steam, it will be in Beta. When the game is polished and includes all planned features, it will finally be "released" and no longer an early access title.

Planned Features

The following features are planned for inclusion prior to release:

  • Achievements

  • More animals and enemies

  • More blocks and items

  • More bosses and in-game events

  • More generated features in the world and dimensions

  • Multiplayer

  • NPCs that can move into player-built structures

  • Quality of life features

  • Workshop Support (Modding)
