Wo Bist Du? changes
Why didn't a dev log go up yesterday?
That question came from a few of you, and I'm happy to answer it.
First a bit of theory, then the practical part further down.
The principle of work and rest has existed since God created the world. Almighty God didn't need to rest — but he did anyway.
In doing so, he gave us humans an example. That day isn't for him. It's for us.
Modern medicine has found the same thing
our bodies genuinely need rest periods.
Rest helps with
Breaking down stress hormones
Kickstarting the regeneration process
Preserving cognitive performance
And a lot more
That's part of why professional athletes take dedicated rest days.
Here's the practical part. Two years ago at Christmas, I was barely functional.
I was short with my coworkers and my family. I could barely sleep, and I was irritable from the moment I woke up. How did I get there? A Christian friend once asked me whether I'd take one day a week off.
I told him that on my days off, I'd only work on Where Are You? — surely that couldn't be a problem, since it's not my regular job.
He smiled and explained that I'd never actually switch off that way. I needed one day to let work rest completely, and to make space for God instead.
Otherwise, I'd lose sight of what actually mattered.
Since then, that day is fixed on the calendar. And sure enough — it works. And tomorrow you'll see more of the game!
