Hi everyone! It’s coming up on 1 year since Within the Cosmos launched! To mark the occasion, I’ve put together an update focused on addressing remaining issues and improving the overall experience based on player feedback.

Here's what's included in today's update:

General Fixes

  • Fixed an issue with the map UI where repeated interactions could break controls and leave the player stuck.

  • Adjusted tree meshes in Alios to prevent them from clipping into nearby rocks.

  • Made terrain changes in Alios to prevent players from getting trapped in areas that should be inaccessible.

  • Fixed inventory images for criminal reports, keypasses, and the datadisk.

Quality of Life Improvements

  • Fast travel is now available for all discovered locations.

  • Headgear can now be hidden while keeping skill bonuses.

  • Improved visibility of dead bodies:

    • Bodies are highlighted when using the 'SONIS-R' augment.

    • Minimap now shows indicators for bodies and whether they contain loot.

  • Added a tutorial for biofragments.

  • Added new flora that provide biofragments.

  • Different factions now have unique inventory images for their associated keys.

  • Made adjustments to the UI for the in-game messenger.

  • Reduced 'SONIS-R' augment biocell drain.

  • Updated firing sounds for the 'Slayer' sniper rifle and 'Divinity' DMR.

Gameplay Changes

  • Increased damage output for the 'Slayer' sniper rifle.

  • Adjusted weapon kickback for the 'Avenger' assault rifle, 'Slayer' sniper rifle, 'Divinity' DMR, 'Havoc' shotgun, and 'Shredder' SMG.

  • Corrected recoil values for the 'Slayer' sniper rifle, 'Divinity' DMR, and 'Havoc' shotgun.

  • Adjusted weapon positioning for the 'Slayer' sniper rifle to fix incorrect placement after ADS.

  • Updated the 3D model for the datadisk to a unique mesh.

Console Commands

  • Console commands are now documented (press + key on the numeric pad or ` key to access the console)

    additem - Adds an item to the player’s inventory (ex: additem GreenPeas) advlevel - Increases player level by 1 addexp - Adds 500 XP addcredits - Adds 500 credits addscraps - Adds 150 scraps addsoftware - Adds 1 NIM advmission - Advances the current mission to the next objective addmission - Adds a mission (ex: addmission M02) imm - Enables immortality

It's been quite a journey over the last year, and the years leading up to it. I've learned a lot about the game development process, and I intend to take these lessons forward into my next project.
