Windhelm — Q2-26 Minor Update Patch Notes
New Features and Quality of Life Additions
Gameplay and Mechanics
- Directional Dodge RollingIntroduced a new directional dodge roll and combat roll mechanic to give players more fluid positioning choices during fights.
Auto-Equip: Weapons will now automatically equip upon pickup if your hands or active weapon slots are currently empty.
Shield Bash Upgrades: Enhanced shield bash attacks to properly apply knockback to enemy mobs.
- Smart Interaction SystemAdded underlying logic to prevent conflicting inputs when a player tries to pick up an item and talk to an NPC at the same exact time.
- Death Camera EffectsAdded a smooth camera fade-out effect whenever Garth dies.
Stat Bar Overhaul: Standardized the backend mathematical logic across the Health, Stamina, Magic, and EXP bars for clean, consistent UI animation feedback.
UI, UX and Progression Trackers
Hover Tooltips: Hovering your cursor or selection over items inside the inventory will now display details and descriptions of what they are.
- Gamepad Slot IndicatorsAdded a dedicated visual hover effect to all gamepad inventory widgets so players can easily see their actively selected slot.
- Dynamic Biome BannersImplemented a new stylized pop-up banner notification that triggers on screen whenever you enter a new biome.
- Active Objective TrackerAdded a live mission tracker to the top of the HUD to display your current primary objective.
Quest Page: Layout and core functionality for the main Quest Log page are now fully finalized.
- Item Pickup FeedAdded a new onscreen pickup widget that displays scrolling text confirmation of what items were just added to your inventory.
Dynamic Mobs Drops: Defeated enemy mobs now have a randomized chance to drop loot bags.
World, Audio and Content
Dynamic Audio Engine: Implemented immersive foley footstep sounds that procedurally adapt based on the specific surface texture the player is walking on.
Dialogue Gamepad Support: Integrated full gamepad navigation support directly into the branching dialogue UI system.
Quest Flow Visualizer: Significantly advanced the core dialogue and quest backend tools.
- New ItemsAdded the new Parrot Herb item to the world's item pool.
Cinematic Blueprint: Created a custom two-character dialogue cutscene camera layout blueprint to smoothly frame conversations.
- Ambient AtmosphereAdded procedural details like ambient birds and floating background islands to breathe more life into the overworld horizons.
Procedural Dungeons: Successfully integrated procedural dungeon spawning layouts directly into the overworld map.
Development and Infrastructure
Demo Executable Icon: Configured the custom game icon for when the standalone demo build is running.
Studio Audio: Upgraded the developer workspace with a licensed copy of FL Studio Producer Edition for custom music and sound production.
Web Deployment: Officially secured and purchased the production domain name for the game's website launch.
Bug Fixes and Optimization
UI and Controller Fixes
- Gamepad Inventory FocusFixed a major bug where dropping an item via gamepad closed the action menu and caused the player to lose all inventory screen focus, freezing your controls.
Chest Widget Focus Fixes: * Fixed an issue where closing the action menu inside a chest inventory screen stripped away screen focus.
Patched chest inventories to automatically focus the widget upon opening, matching the behavior of regular menus.
Resolved a gamepad issue where using an item, or closing and reopening the inventory, failed to instantly refocus the active widget.
Controller Inventory Optimization: General performance overhaul to how the backend handles gamepad inputs inside menus.
Launch Polish: Turned off visible debug focus highlights across the UI for the official public launch build.
Gear and Inventory Bug Fixes
- Item Duplication GlitchFixed a bug where dropping an item directly into an active weapon slot accidentally duplicated the slot rather than removing the item from the inventory.
- Weapon Slot DeletionsFixed a gear equipping issue where slotting a sword and then a shield caused the shield to entirely disappear from Slot 2.
- Character LightingFixed the lighting parameters for the character model preview window inside the inventory screen.
- Floating LootFixed an issue where health and mana potions would float in mid-air upon spawning.
- Stray ItemsRemoved a misplaced gold bag from the dungeon starting spawn room.
AI and Combat Fixes
Enemy Aggro Validation: Verified and patched AI parameters to guarantee that player characters are properly targeted and attacked by enemy mobs.
- Chomper AIFixed a bug where the "Chompers" enemy type refused to walk or move.
- Deer AIAdjusted deer behavior so they no longer actively follow the player around the map like pets.
- Overworld CleanupRemoved accidentally placed bears from the demo level.
World, Camera and Environment Fixes
- Robin Dialogue GlitchesFixed separate issues that caused stuttering movement routines, talking glitches, and strange camera angles when interacting with the NPC Robin.
- Dungeon Traversal LockFixed an interaction lock occurring when trying to jump and interact simultaneously on the dungeon level.
Dungeon Helper UI: Ensured that the helpful onboarding UI elements now correctly display when inside dungeon areas.
- Compass TrackingFixed the compass bar to track data correctly and added a tracker for the nearest dungeon directly to it.
- Waypoint DriftFixed a bug where placed waypoint markers floated way above your actual crosshair placement target.
- Premature Biome TriggersFixed a collision bug that accidentally triggered the new biome change event prematurely.
- Visual Map PolishPatched a grass rendering issue in the demo level, cleaned up rogue bushes, and fixed a material bug causing trees to glow with unintended emissive lighting.
- Navigation MeshFixed the navigation mesh (nav mesh) layout across the demo level to prevent AI clipping.
