changedExplorationIn this update we've completely reworked how biome generation is done, in order to give players way more freedom.
changedExplorationYou can choose how to approach each biome - do you head to the shop for some upgrades or a potion? Or do you head directly for the boss? Do you focus on exploring, in search of rewards, or decimate every enemy in sight? You can approach each biome however you'd like.

New Stuff

Exploration

In this update we've completely reworked how biome generation is done, in order to give players way more freedom.

You can choose how to approach each biome - do you head to the shop for some upgrades or a potion? Or do you head directly for the boss? Do you focus on exploring, in search of rewards, or decimate every enemy in sight? You can approach each biome however you'd like.

Because of how much more complex the biomes are, we've added teleporters into the game to help you jump back and forth between places you've explored. This means you won't need to dash all the way back once you've cleared out one direction.

Maps

Teleporters are great and all, but being able to actually see where you're going and where you've been is also super important! Thankfully, we've got that covered too!

You'll find a new mini-map has been added to you HUD, allowing you to see at a glance what's around you and which direction you're heading in.

Taking this even further, we've added an actual map too! This will display everything from the teleporters you've unlocked, to chests, locations of interest, and even the boss (once you've found them that is). This should help you see if you've missed any routes, or help direct you back to that shop you passed now you need a health pot...

Rarity System and FREND!

Also coming in this update is a new item rarity system. This will be applied to weapons, trinkets, Gifts, and Hexes, allowing you to find some seriously strong variants of your favourite weapons!

While out on a run you could encounter items of Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Mythic rarity, each of which will see bumps in power and stats. This should give you even more choice when shaping your builds, and maybe take you in directions you hadn't originally planned!

Additionally, the Loyalty System at FREND has been upgraded too! You'll now be able to deposit your surplus of cogs to unlock permanent upgrades that will increase your chances of finding higher rarity items!

Pluuuuuuus, if you complete these new upgrades there's a brand new Skin waiting for you!

Volumetric Clouds

Something cool that we teased a while back, was the introduction of volumetric clouds! It might sound like a simple thing, but the backdrop of Windblown can be just as important as the sky islands you dash along.

These fluffy new additions should really ramp up the level of immersion you'll find in each biome, and help set the stage for some of the epic boss battles you run into.

There's a bunch more coming in this update too!

  • Amplifiers - You can now upgrade Gifts and Hexes with the use of Amplifiers! These can be found on runs and applied to Gifts you've already picked up

  • Enemy Variants - You'll find new enemy variants on higher difficulties, making them more deadly than ever!

  • New Boss - The Golem Gardens Biome has a new resident in higher difficulties, in the form of a brand new boss with some super cool mechanics! Hmmm, it's head looks familiar!

  • Onboarding - New games will benefit from a brand new narrative onboarding, helping set the stage for the game and introduce some important characters. Plus the addition of a new Alterattack tutorial!
